fred2 Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 (edited) Hi, My boys and I are considering buying a new (external) monitor for each of our 3 laptop setups. Ideally, it should be possible to continue using the monitors when the Acer and MSI switch to a more powerful (floor-standing) computer, is planned in the medium term. Setup 1: MSI laptop i7 9750h 32 + 8 GB RAM GTX 1650 4GB RAM Setup2: OMEN laptop i7 10750h 8 + 8GB RAM (will be increased soon) RTX 2070 maxQ 8GB we would consider something like this for the two of them: https://www.conrad.at/de/p/denver-mlc-3403-gaming-monitor-86-4-cm-34-zoll-eek-gag-3440-x-1440-pixel-uwqhd-6- ms-hdmi-displayport-audio-li-2289802.html Does it make sense? Setup 3: Acer aspire 5 laptop i7 8550u 32 + 4GB RAM MX 150 2GB For that one we need a smaller screen (max. 65 cm wide) You'd have to consider the lower GPU + computer performance, right? Is there any difference for the performance/requirements if you buy a monitor with: FullHD 1920x1080 QHD 2560x1440 UltraHD 3840x2160 Is it basically irrelevant whether the screen "can" do more than the computer or is it not possible to "turn down" the graphics? In other words: does the screen have to be adapted to the graphics power of the computer or can you buy a top monitor right away without taking the computer performance into account? Sorry for my clueless questions Thank you very much for your input! Edited September 28, 2021 by fred2
