Loaded_Dice Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 (edited) Hi to all I'm planning to build a new PC now specifically for use with Black Shark and other flight simulators like FSX and Condor. The only thing which is not clear to me yet is the choice of a graphic card. I must say that at this moment I'm more in a favor of NVDIA's 9800GTX+ despite it's 20-30E higher price tag, mostly because of a performance issue with ATI cards in FSX (locked at 25 frames) which ATI doesn't seem to care about. Also I have been disappointed by the performance of the previous ATI 3870 model when I tested it on my friends rig. All this and the fact that I am a satisfied NVDIA user so far makes me a little bit subjective to my decision. That's why I would like to ask the rest of you, especially the ones that already had experience with BS what is the better decision between these two cards ? Edited November 25, 2008 by Loaded_Dice
muz Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 I have no experience with Black Shark (yet - still waiting for it to arrive in in New Zealand). The 9800GTX+ is a very good card and overclocks well. If you are unhappy with ATI's performance in FSX, then you should go with the GTX+. They have really good coolers on them and overclock quite nicely with virtually no increase in heat (in a decent case with good airflow). Bang for the buck I think the 2 best cards on the market at the moment are the GTX+ and the ATI 4850.
Loaded_Dice Posted November 28, 2008 Author Posted November 28, 2008 Thanks for the reply @muz. I'm also sharing the same opinion since the GTX+ operates at a much lower temperature than the 4850 which leaves extra space for overclocking . I will definitely go for the GTX+ especcially if I manage to find it for the same price as the 4850.
-Nighthawk- Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 What are you on about ATI cards being locked at 25 FPS? I'm currently using a HD4850 and im getting 80FPS+ on high settings in FSX. There is an option in FSX graphics to choose a FPS limit, just check "unlimited" that will definitely fix the problem. Also, if you get one of the ATI cards that have an aftermarket cooler (HIS ICEQ / new Gigabyte models) it runs cooler and quieter then a GTX+. Both cards are pretty much the same performance however, though the ATI card has a few advantages in DX10.1 and ATI Stream coming in 2 weeks.
