Yes, it is scan.co.uk. I opened the link within a couple of minutes and it just showed the price tag without the green button. Maybe it's because it was on the phone, instead of a desktop...don't know really, annoying tho. I was after a 3060ti or 3070. But 3070 didn't even drop.

Yeah I had noticed that the 3070s hadn't been listed, keep watching this space!!!

I bought mine on my phone and had ample chances to buy again last night (not that I need to or am going to), perhaps something didn't display correctly on the browser?  Did you try clicking on the price button?

I did, and it just highlighted the price, I tried switching it to desktop mode even, open in different app, and still nothing. It was ok yesterday with 80ti and 90, they had a buy button..but they are out of my budget anyway..so potentially I wasn't the only one with this issue today.

The 3080 had a clickable price button. After negotiating the now obigitary "that is a bus  and i am not a robot" thing, I think I was on the page within a minute of the telegram notification and went straight to the item. I had already set up an updated account with the card i was intending to use prior (fortunately i was able to use it to buy something i needed as it seems the only way to add a card), ensuring the same info was definately stored on the phone.  

@nikita_nomad good luck with the searching. Patience will pay off and you'll sit heppy in the knowledge that you were scalped.

So i could take my 3080 FE straight to CEX in the uk and walk away with a £420 profit. I could buy another on the next round, sell that and make enough to buy a 3080 to keep and still make £180 on the deal.  I wont cos Im lazy but.....Crazy world.

I think scan have cancelled orders based on previous GPU purchases, you would need to use a different account and payment method. Similarly I think GPUs are limited to one per account per purchase.

Morally I couldn't sell the 3070 just to make a quick couple of hundred, I did sell the 1070 to recoup a good portion of the upgrade though

I have a large family!  Seriously, I saw a note saying limitied to 1 per customer But i dont know if thats per round. I really hope it isnt and, like you say, its one per account until the supply problem is gone (if ever). I think Im in the same moral place as you. As someone whos slagged off scalpers in the past Id be somethng of a not right to go do the same. 

Gonna revert to plan A to pay off the credit cand and sent my child out to work...

Guys, maybe some of you missed the point I was trying to make:

With voucher exchanges, the cost of a two years warranted 1080 Ti at CEX goes down by as much as they pay for your previous GPU, depending on the model you exchange to them it can lower the cost by a few hundred boxes.

That's why I posted this topic, if one wants to buy a brand new GPU with equal-to-higher performances to a 1080Ti, using this system with CEX will always bring the value for money on the side of the CEX purchase, I will start to look for 3080 and 3080Tis from them in the future trying to use the same trade/exchange system ans I did for my 1080Ti.

For value for money I still beleive the Scan purchase of a founders edition 3080 was the right choice for me given CEX are selling the 1080ti for £600. There would be a £280 differential to pay CEX for a 1080-1080ti voucher trade. I believe that I could reliably sell my 1080, had I wished, on e-bay for £300 at least leaving a £350 differential. So £70 difference between a warrentled 1080ti or a new 3080FE with DLSS support and ray tracing for the times I want to play a AAA title. 

I thank you for the thread -its certainly an eye opener and a very valid option to consider. Sorry for helping to take it OT but I hope, taken as a whole it provides some good pointers for those who, like me, were stuck in an upgrade hole.

Without the FE cards at msrp then yes the cex 1080ti is a great option.

Nice to see you're aware to have passed all this time posting in the wrong topic...

First, your buy looks like a total freak accident, just in case you haven't noticed yet, 99.99% of players in the UK won't be able to emulate it at the moment, reason for posting this topic in the first place because people need real info on alternative solutions, not counting on lotery or Santa Claus to find a suitable GPU, even as stop gap like was the my case.

Then I didn't buy my 1080Ti when it was as this high price and the total cost was £361.00 after voucher exchange of my Radeon 5500 XT GPU, since I plan to upgrade to a 3080Ti, not an FE, my warranteed 1080Ti works just fine, was the right choice, and might well be the right choice for those who are unable to find something suitable and need a good 3080 below £900 in the future.

This solution still was cheaper even so the general market increase in cost make it seems like it isn't, but considering the fact that players in the UK can't put their hands on anything cheap or anything at all in the 3080 GPU market, you posted in the wrong topic once again.

Here, try to get a 3080Ti from Scan and when you realized that you just can't then search the market for anything below £900, good luck.

To be fair, it wasn't an accident freak or otherwise. Just have to wait for the stock and buy one then. I could have since bought any of the FE cards in the second stock drop in the two months I've been watching the stock drops.

As mentioned, two uk forum members have grabbed FE cards directly as a result of me linking them to the telegram channel. It's not hard, just have to be able to buy them when they're available, the last drop of 3080ti FE cards were still in stock for 1049msrp for a couple of hours.

In total my upgrade from my 1070 to 3070 cost me 170. Factoring in our Christmas cash bonus it was a 20 quid upgrade, no way in hell I could have bought the same performance from cex for anywhere near that price (bonus or not).

As usual you're more into assumption than reality, starting by "just have to be able to buy them when they're available". not everyone case:

Today, CEX would buy a Radeon 5500 XT for vouchers for £286.00 and your 1070 for £253.00 any day and no need to wait, plus a 3070 FE doesn't meet my requierements and I bet I'm not the only one in this case, its performances are not high enough to justify even considering buying one second hand...

My GPU of choice would be an MSI 3080Ti Trio, not any FE, even less a 3070, so a two years warranteed 1080Ti as stop gap for £329 would still make a lot more sense for me than your solution, starting with a Radeon 5500 XT as I did, since I still would have to upgrade in when the market recovered down to reasonable rates.

Now, if your trick works, you could try to find an MSI 3080Ti Trio below £1000 available right now, there are none, as simple as that, I don't assume that people can find a GPU at the price you did find yours, I am sure that £329 for a 1080Ti in exchange for a Radeon 5500 XT as stop gap is still a cheaper and better solution than buying a GPU which doesn't meet my requierements, buying it on the price only providing it is available. 

Before I commit to splashing dosh of this sort, I do my home work and I'm a little bit more picky than just buying a 3070, sorry.

£341 on eBay, after fees I walked away with 300, leaving 170 deficit from the cost of the 3070. Works nicely for me, call it BS all you like but I have the exact upgrade I wanted and it cost me next to nothing

I never claimed to be able to buy an AIB card for close to FE msrp, it just isn't possible because Nvidia have charged so much for the the chip design to the 3rd parties. Scalpers have pulled the arse out of the market so you're right, you won't find anything other than an FE card direct from Nvidia for less than silly money and that's not something that I would ever consider doing. Infact if the second hand market for 1070s weren't so bouyant I wouldn't have even paid msrp for an FE card in the first place. As it is I have a current gen card as @Boosterdogpointed out with three years warranty.

My point was that the 30xx cards are available, you just have to be at the right place at the right time and have a little patience. The 80ti and 90 are actually easier to get hold of because the miners seem to target the 70 more due to performance vs cost.

It's saddening that within a day of an FE stock drop at scan there is a glut of FE cards available in Facebook marketplace for 200+% msrp

In all honesty I was completely desolate of the thought of being able to upgrade my gpu at all for the next couple of years at least. The realisation that the FE cards are actually available at msrp made the maths simple.

My MO for gpu upgrades has always been buy second hand, at least a generation old but aim for the higher end of the generation (Nvidia 70s/80s). Sometimes that tactic has worked wonders, sometimes not so much. The last brand new GPU upgrade I bought was a pair of 7900gs in sli and it's was a lemon, worst money I've spent on an upgrade.

This 3070 upgrade is certainly the cheapest I've ever made and the most performant. Lucky? Definitely! I paid 200 for the 1070 second hand three years ago.

Your maths are anything but simple...

First of all you base every single post on assumptions:

1) Why would anyone buy a 3070?

2) Availability, it is untrue to claim that your buy is anything else than circumstancial, market price for a 3070 is mostly above £900.

3) Resale cost. Your 1070 market price second hand is £178.00, and the exchange against vouchers at CEX will return £253.00, I doubt very much that this and the rate at which you bought yours will equal to the 12% increase in performance over a 1080Ti.

4) Amazon? Well guess WHY I post topics like this? Precisely to allow players to avoid the trap of buying untested, unwarranted piece of junk for more than their real price.

So your solution as I said is nothing else than a freak buy and buying second hand, tested, two years warranteed GPU at CEX is a perfecly vialbe and more widely available solution than yours, especially for someone who doesn't want to buy a 3070 simply to have to upgrade within the next two years.

Interestingly enough, the market value of something is what someone is willing to pay. Have a look on eBay, 1070s are being sold on bidding auctions for more than 300 currently, mine started at 75 and ended at 341. What cex will give you for one is below market value.

The £900 3070s you see are the second hand market value because scalpers are greedy and miners will pay it. But brand new retail price for a 3070 FE is 469 direct from Nvidia complete with three year warranty.

Why the 3070? It matches my system build, has ample performance for my requirements and for me is the best bang for buck. Certainly given the speed at which the 3070 FE cards sell out their popularity is fairly obvious.

At the end of the day, cex are a business to make money but their warranty is an a awesome deal for second hand kit
