MarcT-NL Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 Every plane has its specifick weapons. Every pilot has his specifick preferences. So it is nice that DCS provides a way to design your own loadout-presets for each plane. But it is a bit odd that I need the mission-editor to design weapon-loadouts for my planes. It is a mission-editor, not a loadout-library-tool. I understand, that while making a mission or a campaign, the designer should be able to controll available loadouts for that mission. So indeed, it should be possible to design loadouts in the mission-editor. But when I fly on a Multi-player-server I don't want all the default loadouts (which I never use) polluting the list of my own loadouts. Even if I use the mission-editor to design all my prefered loadouts, and delete all the unwanted loadouts, I still find them mixed up with other loadouts in the rearm-screen. Why should it always depend on the mission, and why can't this be a property of the plane itself ? So my whish would be this: Make a menu-option in the mainmenu, where I can design and maintain my favourite loadout-presets (similar to that in the mission-editor) for every plane that I purchased. In the mission editor, make an option to "Restrict Loadouts". Restrict Loadouts Ticked: If this option is ticked, the planes can only have loadouts that were made available in this mission. Also while doing the mission and rearming; only the loadouts that were given by the mission-designer can be chosen. Restrict Loadouts Not Ticked: If the option is not ticked, planes can have any loadout. In the rearm-screen, the loadout-presets are shown that were made by the user. The loadouts that were made in the mission-editor are not shown. It is ok that planes come with a few loadouts made by ED. But if a user decides to delete those and create his own, than only those should be visible. Wether ticked or not ticked, the actual rearming will considder availability of the weapons on that airfield. I can understand that this is a big whish to make. It touches all planes, the mission-editor and all existing missions. Even third-party modds probably. Nevertheless, each time I rearm my plane, the sheer list of nonsense-loadouts polluting my prefered loadouts is annoying, so I thought I'd make a whish... 1 1
MarcT-NL Posted January 4, 2022 Author Posted January 4, 2022 Right... this is strange. I was just in the DCS Mission Editor, creating loadouts, when I saw a tickbox called "Restrict weapons"... When I tick it the loadout-preset list changes. This looks very much like the wish I proposed earlier today. This must be the fastest granted whish ever ! I looked at the DCS Manual, but I can't find what this tickbox exactly does... Could anyone explain ? Or tell me where I can find the answer ? This is very weird. I thought I had a bright idea for DCS, but it's already there it seems ! 1

Uhm... dude.... it's been in the game for a couple patches now XD The "Restrict Weapons" tickbox is there to allow the Mission Creator to make certain weapons either available for use, or not available for use. An example of this in action would be if someone was making a multiplayer mission where the Mig21 is available. The creator can go in, and with three clicks, remove the nukes (one to click to bring up the screen, and two more to remove the nukes). Another example comes from a mission I made for public use. As it's designed more for early Cold War, I had to use some stand-ins for the Vietnam era jets. In order to accomplish this, I restricted the weapons they were allowed to use. For the F-14 for example, I removed the Phoenix, AIM7M and MH, and AIM9M, as well as any GPS Guided weapons, and the LANTIRN pod. I did the same with the Hornet, Viper, Mirage, Viggin, and Hog for Blue Force, and the Mig21 (the nukes), and Mig29 for Red Force (turning the latter into a Mig27 weapon wise). Couple this with taking away data link, AWACS, and disallowing the F10 map to show red units, I forced players into that pre-Vietnam mindset of seeing something on radar, but unsure if it's an enemy or not, requiring visual ID. That being said, the ability to save a loadout from the loadout screen would be nice, especially in scenarios like the one mentioned above.
