Harold Bradshaw Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 Hello, I'm looking at those common Tower Pro micro servo's. SG90, for example. On stepper motor controllers, you can turn off the stepper when you're done with the movement, this lower wasted power since the stepper coils can de-energize. That does not appear to be possible with servo motors - if they're powered, the coils of the servo are energized. They're typically powered from the Arduino itself. So to conserve power, you might need to use a relay to power off the 5V line when not in use? Thanks.
BitMaster Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 This is not an R/C forum but I might be able, as an retired R/C Pilot, what servos are out there. Analog: does not apply holding power, those do not burn through but on the downside analog servos are not as precise, fast and powerful vs. digital ones. Digital: does apply power/current to hold the desired position up until it burns through. Killed a few Jumbo Servos for my 1:6 Groeschel Buggy's steering this way. Maybe that helps a little.
