cobrabase Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) This Summer I had a blast learning to fly the Su-27 in flaming cliffs. I believe in crawling before I can walk. You all taught me so much. I started flying the "T-Toad" toward the end but all hell broke loose with my TM F-22 joystick. :joystick: I was having a devil of a time flying the Su-25T not knowing that false signals were being sent to my PC. I thought it simply was trying to fly the T-toad! The worst of all was when I would send a series of commands to the sim through the stick that would send key combinations causing the sim to accelerate time or slow it down!!! NO WONDER I WAS HAVING TROUBLE LANDING!!! If you look at some of my posts I wrote in utter frustration it's hilarious! Well, with Hitman's help in giving me his old X-52 (holding up great btw!) I was up and flying. I'm a kind of "use it or lose it" guy when it comes to flight sim skills. If I am away from flying for more than 2 weeks my skills start to degrade. When I was up and running with e X-52 I wanted to get the feeling of using it with the Flanker first and I've had a blast. You all have coached me through successful use of SARH missiles and other great tactics. I haven't tackled the Su-33 yet (despite many of you urging me on) because, frankly, I want to blow the hell out of ground targets. I took my first steps back into the T-toad yesterday by modding my Flanker control macros and getting them settled down. I'm like a test pilot when trying out new macros... a lot of people found fault with designers of the F-22 because the cockpit layout took so long to solidify with extensive testing. I TOTALLY understand why.... I like to make macros that are intuitive and that takes time. I'm getting better at it oer the years. There's nothing better than assigning keys into your controls that make combat EASIER. ahhh... nice. Towards the end of my time on the PC yesterday I decided to give landing a try. I like to get the feel of sink rate by first trying to land without ILS. I know... it sounds like a dumbass thing to do but for some reason it helps me. I did it fairly light with external tanks dumped and about 1900 kilos of fuel left. Been a while since I've done this. WOW! Didn't even nick up my iron beast!!! Okay... I was lucky and there wasn't any wind so it was a totally EASY landing but I surprised myself. All my landing attempts despite a controller- induced "time warp" may have actually helped me!!! LOL!!!:pilotfly: I'm so excited to have a new bird to tame. Going to be a fun Christmas!!! Edited December 3, 2008 by cobrabase [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cobrabase Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Would some of you experts like to tell me the corner speed for the Su-25T? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RedTiger Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Would some of you experts like to tell me the corner speed for the Su-25T? Interesting question. I can't really answer that and give you a number but I can relate to you my experience. At some point while flying the aircraft, something "clicked". It stopped feeling like a dump truck and started feeling like a combat aircraft. Suddenly doing an oblique turn in the vertical after an attack run seemed as natural as flying in a straight line. I was able to whip the plane back around quickly for another pass where before I had to extend very far before feeling like I could haul that pig of an aircraft around. The REAL fun came when I switched to the regular Su-25. I lost my stand-off weapons but gained so much in return. It felt like taking leg weights off after running 10 miles with them! This feeling is something I've never felt before in any other flight sim, including the SFM planes in LOMAC -- even though I've flown those probably 20 times as much as the Su-25T. I'm sure someone can give you some figures (its not so much one number, it varies with altitude, weight, etc.), but the best thing to do is fly it, fly it again, and then fly it some more until such a number is meaningless and you can just "feel" where you need to be! :pilotfly:
hitman Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 (edited) I recommend this download. http://lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=180&lid=1198&ttitle=MiG-29S__Su-25_-25T_new_Airspeed_Indicators#dldetails Rich helped me making these indicators. They are just radial marks on the airspeed indicator that tells you the best speeds for these 3 aircraft. Obviously, the purpose of turning sharply is to not stall, so use the small white radial line to gauge your speed (but make sure you have flaps extended). Anything in the green is good. Blue is just an extension of the green line, but just used for airspeed climbing on a single engine. BTW...hows my former joystick holding up? You're right, I should grab that one. I've already learned "the value of the flap" in the Toad. :) Stick is holding up just fine. Recently opened it up for it's lubrication using the scissor oil you recommended. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
