RedTiger Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 From the "Trees" thread: When did you ever hear of real Ka-50s (or any other Russian combat helo's) sneaking from cover to cover to get into optimum range? Usually, they are flying over mountain tops at high altitudes and struggling for control, carrying either half the fuel or half the payload to even get up there. That is the tactical reality of the last 30 years of combat helicopter operations, at least for the Soviet and then the Russian military. Being able to convey that experience while breaking the habits of classic Longbow followers is one of the things I most love about DCS: Black Shark. This brings up a question I have for those who already have the sim. Can you target objects with the Shkval at higher altitudes? What about actually getting in parameters for a shot? I have trouble with the Shkval in Flaming Cliffs because it seems to be a low-altitude only sensor. I've tried flying the Su-25T from 6000 to 10,000 meters and at those altitudes its very difficult to see an object like a tank or house until you are almost right above it. In fact, I think all of LOMAC's TV images were fubar. I had trouble with mavericks as well. Does BS improve upon this?
tusler Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Yes I was flying online the other day coop and at wp7 on the map I was up to 4k meters, out of range of AAA and searched them out in the trees with the Shkval, locked one up and took him out with missile, the other I locked up and passed off to another team member in better position to get. Boberro Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Remember Shkval in LO is not too realistic ;), but flying 10 000 m I can see easily targets, don't know but I guess it is modified by FPS Mod. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
