Tank50us Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 A little thing, but it would be nice if in the Mission Editor, when setting up unit formations, if there was a graphic that showed exactly what the formation is supposed to look like. Additionally, it would also be nice for there to be a tool-tip to give advice on just what certain formations are meant to be used for, seeing as not everyone who plays DCS has encyclopedic knowledge of these subjects.
G.J.S Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 (edited) More formation types would be useful. Box, offset box for instance. *edit. Plus the ability to split a formation into attack elements near a target, so they can come in on differing headings. (Unless that’s already possible? I’m no master with the editor) Edited February 8, 2022 by G.J.S - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
84-Simba Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 What I do is to split the flight into different flights. I order the second element to follow the lead flight until a certain point where I can give him specific orders, different routes, etc ... Something I found useful is to actually despawn or spawn different flights if they are out of sight ; it is a great cheat to help the IA to manage the fuel. They act as the same flights but they are indeed not the same, so the in-game radio call-outs may sound weird. For the formation for an escort for example I put the fighters to follow a specific group and then use : Distance : -500 Height : -80 Interval : -500 (if I want them on the left wing) or 500 if I want them on the right wing. Be aware that the follow action s targeted at the leader of the group you want to be followed. So if there are more than one aircraft in that group you'll have to adjust your settings depending on the position of those other aircrafts. But those numbers work well for a tanker formation for example.
