MBot Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 For Il-2 I set the smoothing in the TrackIR software to maxiumum ( 120 ) and it works very well. In Lock On on the other hand, increasing smoothing in the TIR software doesn't realy smooth the view, but adds a delay. With 120 smoothing a view change takes several seconds to react. This means I have to play with a low smoothing value for Lock On. Is that the way it is suposed to be or do I make something wrong ? I would love to set up a similar profile as I use with Il-2, but with that delay in reaction high smoothing is not usable. I am using TrackIR 1 with the 3.11 software.
Alfa Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Hi MBot, I am something of a "newbie" when it comes to TrackIR(only had mine for about 6 weeks), so I havent got any experience with this in Lock-on 1.02, but I can tell you that there has been some significant improvements in regards to the use of TrackIR in 1.1. Anyway, I have a TrackIR 3 Pro, and have set smoothing to full(120) and it doesnt cause any responce delay :) . There is also some degree of support(zoom axis) for the Vector Expansion software :) JJ
zzzspace Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 The thing to realise about TrackIR is that it requires a strong IR reflection for smoothest tracking. I use a TrackIR GX in enhanced mode with v3.13 software where smoothing = 120 and preferred object size = 200. However, if I use only a SINGLE IR DOT the TrackIR tracks poorly and is not very smooth, so I now use 4 IR dots in a close packed diamond shape with the above setting. I didn’t realise this effect was occurring until I got some spectacles late last year for use on the PC. They have coated lenses to reduce internal lens glare from the monitor. The IR reflection off of the lenses interfered with the IR tracking signal from the IR dot. i.e. the glasses had increased the IR noise level and interference the tracker had to compete with. By using four IR reflection dots in a close diamond shape, this solved the induced IR signal to noise ratio problem, so that there’s now much more reflected tracking signal for the IR tracker to sense, and proportionally less extraneous IR noise to confuse the tracker, resulting in much smother more accurate tracking. BTW, there's no tracking delay even with an old TrackIR1 GX in Lock On, looks like you have some other problem with that delay occurring. ||| Romanes eunt domus ||| zzzspace V2.0 REAL SOUND for DCS World - and all Modules |||
MBot Posted February 7, 2005 Author Posted February 7, 2005 Ok, it is good to know that the problem defenitly lies on my setup. Altough I don't know where the problem could be, because I have this since the release of Lock On, with various TIR software versions and on two different computers. As I read in zzzspace's post, there seems to be a new software version by now so I will give it a try. Alfa, it is good to hear that TrackIR got enhanced in 1.1. It felt always a bit strange to me ( and I use TIR since 2.5 years ), almost like the game runs with low fps altough my fps are usualy around the 40s. But it could well be that this is just my little smoothing problem. Btw, I can only support zzzspace's suggestion for multiple dots. I have several sticked in my headset boom, "curved" around the microphone. This ensures good tracking even in "high aspect, off boresight" situations :)
