Hello, as the SPO-10 is suppossed to change signal frequency for being illuminated by scan mode and track mode, increasing with track, I noticed that while this is implemented for ground radars it does not seem to be so for air radars.

I have three tracks here, one with MiG-23 firing on me, placed 20 km away. It does not fire until well within WVR. To make sure it wasn’t in track mode from beginning of mission, I placed a MiG-21bis at 18 km, a range beyond which it can track anything. And the signal frequency was the same, about more then once per second. I also placed a MiG-31, which gives no RWR lock indication for any DCS module, and signal frequency was the same.

On a third track, I placed a SA-8. The beeps in search mode are far slower, once every two seconds or so, maybe .5 hz. And the signals noticeably increase when it locks before missile firing to same rate as when all airborne radars looks at you, a little more then once per second closer to twice per second, 1-2 hz.

The user and technical manual for SPO-10 from 1976 states that signal from illumination by radar in track mode can be up to 6 HZ. So it seems that either scan mode signal frequency is not implemented for airborne radars, or a faster beep frequency closer to 6 hz is not implemented for their track mode. If so, I would also expect closer to 6 hz then the current approximately .5-1 hz for radars in track mode.

If you require a separate track for the issue of air targets having only one beep frequency, and track beep frequency being below user manual description (which is fairly likely an upper limit), please let me know

It would be great if this could be looked into and much appreciated, especially as R-60 comes out for Mi-24, thank you very much

Any update on this one?

It would be one of the last things they have yet to fully complete on Mi-24. Adding these features I think would be a very valuable feature for situational  awareness and threat sorting. If ED can properly get down how signal frequency will shift will range. Maybe even use the same data they use for signal strength indication for SPO-15 to have it so that different radars will cause 1-6 hz beeps at different ranges and cause all 4 lights to turn on at different ranges (currrently seems to be hard coded at 5 km for most units.)
