I've played dcs for awhile now and use a 27" monitor with 2 7" monitors for my TM MFD's which work great using Helios.

But I also have a 2nd 27" monitor that I use to keep discord and other similar apps on.

What I'm wondering if is possible with my setup to use only a small portion of my 2nd 27" monitor to add a couple small viewports for say Tacan and DED ports and keep the remainder for my mentioned apps windows?

I'm no pro with helios and only used it enough for my mfd screens. I have a feeling it's not possible.

I'm open to solutions without adding any more monitors.

Thanks.

You can do this for gauges.  I just tried it with one of the A-10C fuel flow gauges.

What I did was set up the extra monitor in the Helios profile, but EXCLUDED it from the setup in DCS.
i.e Helios knows it's there, but DCS doesn't.
The result is a gauge running over whatever is on the monitor behind.
I think this will work as long as you don't want viewports on the extra monitor.
IIRC, DCS blanks the whole area in its setup resolution.

If you want DCS exported viewports, you might be able to include a portion of the extra monitor in the DCS resolution.  I've not tried that.

I'll have to try that. I'd like to put the f16 fuel gauge like you mentioned since it's in an odd place.

I wouldn't mind have the DED there also, small font sometimes is hard for me to see.

Just to clarify, things like the mfd is a viewport while gauges are not?

Thanks I'll give your suggestion a go,I'm just not very familiar with Helios all that well.

Yes. Helios generates the graphics for the gauges. Viewports come from the game engine.

I think the DED might be a viewport.

An alternative option is build a physical display with an LCD and drive it with DCS-BIOS.

To confirm, this is how I have my dash displaying the RWR, artificial horizon and a couple of others. On the RWR I found I had to move it away from the main display part of the extended screen so that the parts of the RWR frame wouldn't intrude int the main screen
