What's their secret? Why can I see SOME multiplayer servers behind my firewall?

Here's a problem that has been driving me nuts for years, and I can't resolve it so I'd like to enlist your kind expertise and knowledge to help me get around this.

Here are the symptoms:

  • When using a 'naked' connection, I can see all thousands of DCS MP servers. Fine - that's what I expected.
  • When behind my firewall, I can see some. That's what is throwing me. Some. 26 today, to be exact. I could understand none. But how on earth do some servers get through my firewall, while the vast majority don't?

Put differently: what are these servers doing differently that they manage to show up, while most have to stay outside? I can connect to (and play on) those servers that I can see behind the firewall. Those that I can't see, I can't connect, even if I know their IP address.

So obviously, it has to do with my firewall. But what completely throws me is that some can get through, and I obviously want that for my own hosted server as well (I'm using a hosted server that I can only see when I connect to the internet "naked"). Below is a list of the servers that I can see through the firewall. What is their secret? How can I do the same?

I appreciate any hints.

I think they open both TCP and UTP port and some didnt open UTP, which they should

Thanks - but I'm not sure that this would apply to 99% of all servers (2600 servers in total, only 26 can get through to me). Behind my firewall, I can't even see the server that my hosting provider (currently using fox3ms) is running for me, and I assume those are pros and know what they are doing - I doubt they'd forget something as basic as opening an UDP port. So my own hosting provider: no dice. But those 26 servers, they tunnel my firewall no problem. I'd love to find out how they do it (so I can learn and emulate them).

make sure to open all related ports with their corresponding protocols on FW
