The AH-64D Quick Start Guide on page 234 indicates that for VMC Takeoff and VMC Level Acceleration Takeoff, one should apply forward cyclic for a 90-knot climb attitude (wings level).   What does this exactlty means?  I just don't get what a 90-knot climb attitude is.  I would really appreciate it if anyone who knows the answer explains it to me or direct me to a video that covers this issue.

Thanks in advance,

  • Solution

Attitude is the direction of the nose relative to the horizon. A 90-knot attitude is the amount of forward angle you have on the helicopter that gives you 90 knots. If you maintain this angle, changing the collective will only cause you to climb or descend (not accelerate). At 90 knots your stub wings are level with the ground and you are in your most efficient flight regime.
