Swivel buttons on hotas stick and throttle side

Hello

new to x56. There are 2butons on each part of the hotas. On the stick side, GR refers to it as 4C Stick Joy Button 4 and Joyrx/y Axis. While i can push the button down {i use to arm or safe the weapons systems) the thumb gimbals which gives you 360 degree movement, i have not the slightest idea what to do with them.

 

On the throttle side, there is one almost exactly like it, and while i can push the button down, i have no clue what the 360 movement in it does. Any help is appreciated and  i dont want to not use a button/swivel just because i dont understand how to map and use them.
