Mission 9: TACAN does not find tanker and AAR issue

Hi,

first of all, i am really enjoying this campaign. 

In mission 9, i am having the following issues:

1. I can't pick up the tanker on TACAN although i have the right frequency and it is on. It's also set to T/R. I've had not this issue with other missions that require AAR. I managed to sight the tanker visually and hook up that way.

2. Unless i am mistaken, I am instructed to use the starboard hose whilst my wingman uses the port hose. I cannot connect as every time i get close, I get the "breakaway" message from the tanker. When my wingman was finished his plug, i switched to the port side and was able to refuel successfully.

Hi, glad you're enjoying the campaign, that's what it's all about 

Regarding the Tacan issue with the tanker, make sure you have not selected AA when setting up the Tacan. This has not worked with tankers for some time and ED has said this is intentional not a bug. Let me know if this does not fix your issue.

Regarding the refuel issue, this does happen sometimes for some unknown reason thus my comment in the Tips section item 9 of the brief at the beginning of the mission. Try not arriving too far ahead of your wing man.  This AI issue was more evident when the baskets were extended in front of you, now however both baskets always seem to be permanently extended.

Thanks Badger633. I'm pretty sure i didn't have AA selected in the TACAN, but i will check next time i need to AAR. I have moved on to the next mission so will let you know if i still have this issue in future missions.

OK, no worries. In this case the wingman arrived before me and almost crashed into me when he was finished, as he flew across in front of me. I'm still not the best at AAR, and find it quite challenging in your missions, but still usually manage to get enough fuel to get me back to the boat.

I use your campaigns as motivation to practice things such as AAR and recoveries, as i really enjoy it when i am able to complete each mission, so thanks!

Glad your enjoying. Yes, I have planned the campaign missions to progressively force the pilot to learn and use all aspects of the F/A 18C,  so getting better and better each mission.
