Hi Pilots,

anyone here who can tell me "what camera" this switch is supposed to activate ?

btw.

Years ago (early 90s) i had read about some FLIR device in the Hind. Does something like that exist in this one ?

Would be nice to see enemys before they start shooting out of the trees ^^.

Back in Cold War, the West often reported the Mi-24D/V/P/VP as having a LLTV/FLIR. But they were wrong, it just has the periscope.

However, there are photodiodes in the periscope fed by a prism splitting the image. The photodiodes are used to see the near IR signal of the xenon flare on the back of the ATGM, and to then have the radio antenna transmit its distance and direction from the center of the periscope sight. So you could say there is an IR sensing function, but it is only for tracking missiles and can’t be viewed.

As for the camera switch. That is for the S-13 gun camera, that would usually be placed on the right and below the gunsight. If you look at pictures, you will see it obstructs your view to the right and just below the sight. G you have flown MiG-19 or MiG-21 with gun camera, you might be familiar with it.

Bumping an older thread but you seem to be the leading SME on the Hind on the forum so I thought I'd ask out of curiosity-

I watched a walkaround video of an Mi24(V, I think?) and they showed a location in the left wingtip above the outermost ATGM station on the left wing that had a lens and they said this was the gun camera location. I always assumed the camera switch in the Hind turned on that wingtip camera. But you're saying our Hind in DCS should have a cockpit  camera? I always turned that switch on as part of my cold start just for fun, but maybe I'll skip it if our Hind doesn't actually have the camera.

The camera attaches to the ASP-17V, so it’s not in the DCS module
