mvsgas Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 (edited) Bramwell’s Helicopter Dynamics second edition. 1.3 The flapping equation Consider a single blade as shown in Fig. 1.7 and let the flapping hinge be mounted a distance eR from the axis of rotation. The shaft rotates with constant angular velocity Ω and the blade flaps with angular velocity β. Take axes fixed in the blade, parallel to the principal axes, origin at the hinge, with the i axis along the blade span, the j axis perpendicular to the span and parallel to the plane of rotation, and the k axis completing the right-hand set. To a very good approximation the blade can be treated as a lamina. Then, if A is the moment of inertia about i, and B the moment of inertia about j, the moment of inertia C about k is equal to A + B. The angular velocity components ω1, ω2, ω3 about these axes are ω = Ω sin β, ω = – ˙β, ω = Ω cos β :dontgetit::ermm::wassat::D Edited July 30, 2009 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
wickedpenguin Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Only once in nearly 3 months of flying have i encountered a crash with my wingie and that was due to me doing some very abrupt and uncoordinated maneuvering. I'm starting to think that the people who complain about their wingies are the same that complain about catastrophic in flight blade failure  Mid-air wingman collisions have happened to me several times. A couple of times, of course, I was maneuvering hard and BANG, we hit. But overall, he just seems so hell bent on getting to close-in 5 o'clock position that he'll fly directly over me, under me, or beside me just to get there. There have been times where I've done a little pop-up maneuver just get a peek over a hill, and BANG - he's right freaking there. That happened to me yesterday in the "Rescue" mission of the insurgency campaign. Had to start the whole thing over again because the guy flew right over the top of my helo. It's gotten to the point where if I can hear him, I don't move and take a clearing look around before I do anything. I wish there was a "Stop riding my a$$!" command for wingmen. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Sounds like having to clear your airspace is just something you should do RL ... oh wait, you should! :) Of course, your wingman ought to be smarter as well. ... then again you could also send him to a wider formation ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
