manbird Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Decided to have a little fun and do a ferry flight to a FARP up in the mountains during night time in heavy fog, turbulence and thunderstorms with a low ceiling :joystick:. Needless to say, after carefully reviewing the route to verify waypoint altitudes I ended up crashing right into a mountain while fooling around with the GPS display. Any way, I found it difficult to focus on the HUD because the lightning flashes are 10 times fierce in the clouds than outside, but low and behold, as soon as I flip up the HUD filter screen, the lightning flashes no longer backlight the HUD! So I guess that's what they are used for afterall! :smartass: Maybe during direct sunlight travel too?
miguez Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Hey manbird, Awesome find, I was wondering that myself! Now i wonder if the fact you don't get the HUD lit up by lightning is an unwanted consequence of the game engine, or a feature, as I believe the filter is really there for direct sunlight. Meaning I believe in real life the filter wouldn't kill all flash effect from lighting through it, perhaps just make it better..? Devs?
manbird Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 Hi miguez, you're right. It made it a lot better. You can still see a little flash behind the screen, but it made it much easier to read the HUD.
crazysundog Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Yeah, I use it all the time with my HDR lighting turned on... flying into the sun can blind!!
