polak_3 Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 (edited) Issues with SCUD-B & Silkworm launching. Hello. I am quite new to the missiles such as the Silkworm and the SCUD-B. I can't figure out how to launch the Silkworm and the SCUD-B. I select the fire at point for the SCUD-B and attack group (ship) options, but they do not seem to fire. Would mean a lot for me to get help and educate myself on how to use these missile launchers in-game with AI. Best regards, polak_3 Edited November 27, 2022 by polak_3
Exorcet Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 Missiles have reaction times, which can be in the tens of minutes. To make sure that they're not working, place them alone in a mission and speed up time to see if they do anything after about 20 min. Some weapons also have a minimum range. The SCUD is one of them. If the target is inside the min range ring, it won't fire. Check that the point to fire on is between min and max range rings. Lastly when targeting a unit, that unit needs to be detected. Add an AWACS to help the Silkworm or see if there is a "visible" checkbox in the targeting task. This forces the target to be detected. So for a fire at point at start of mission, it took 2 minutes for the truck to even start prepping for launch, at 7:50min they fired. As Exorcet mentioned, most artillery units have a min and max range, the green ring when you select a artillery or missile unit is the minimum range, they cannot fire at anything inside of the green ring. The maximum range is a red ring, they will not fire outside of the red ring. I would imagine that there is a maximum amount of lean permitted for the scuds to fire, make sure they are on level ground.
jonsky7 Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 (edited) For the Silkworm you must create a group with at least one Silkworm Radar (SR) and at least one Silkworm launcher (SS-N-2) 1. Place a ground unit 2. increase number of units in the group by increasing the "OF" number (2) 3. Change individual units in the group as required 4. Done Edited November 27, 2022 by jonsky7

The SCUD didn't work after I did all of that, but when I added a route for it, the SCUD randomly started doing its thing after 2 minutes and firing at 8:08:45. (The main requirement for SCUD is that the engine needs to be turned on I believe, and you can do that by setting a route.) For the Silkworm, everything worked perfectly with AWACS and the Silkworm SR after I moved it a bit closer. Big thanks for everyone's help with the AI. Edited November 29, 2022 by polak_3
