DishDoggie Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 (edited) A BATTALION HAD 3 AHC COMPANY'S AND 1 ASH COMPANY The battalion had 3 Assault Helicopter companies and one Assault Support Helicopter company. This company had, I believe 3 platoons of 8 CH-47's each. The organization of an AHC was designed so one company could support an infantry brigade, one battalion an infantry division. Battalion aviation assets could be pulled together so an entire infantry battalion could be airlifted at one time although this was rarely done. Attached to the company was a transportation detachment for maintenance, a signal detachment to maintain radios, and a medical detachment with a flight surgeon. These last two were assigned to battalion and spread to the companies. AHC COMPANY = 3 PLATOONS OF 30 UH-1'S 2 LIFT PLATOONS CALLED SLICKS EACH PLATOON HAD 10 UH-1'S IN IT 1 PLATOON OF 8 GUNSHIPS OF UH-1'S AND 2 OF THE 10 UH-1'S WERE USED FOR MAINTENANCE/OTHER DUTY IN THE BATTALION 2 GUNSHIPS PER 8 SLICKS Edited January 12, 2023 by DishDoggie forgot something 1
