Vati Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 And now it suppose to be 98%, right? http://www.condorsoaring.com
Kula66 Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 The Pk for the 120 was stated to be .75 ten years ago. And the Pk of the Aim-7 BEFORE Vietnam was ???? and in practice it was <10% ... James
GGTharos Posted February 27, 2005 Author Posted February 27, 2005 And now it suppose to be 98%, right? Not likely. I imagine .8 to .85 if it changed at all. I would imagine that the R-77's performance is pretty close to the same (even if it's 0.7 by comparison, it doesn't matter - the difference is actually pretty small and won't matter to anyone who's got one of those coming at them) Kula: I don't know about BEFORE Vietnam, but I know that right now it hovers around the mid-thirties. Also, for reference, weapons like the Igla and Stinger have been claimed to have a .3-.4Pk against an unsuspecting target (but this shouldn't be too surprising, they're small weapons with limited amnevuerability and power, and an uncooled seeker AFAIK) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

"...Examples of lethality include 1) the Afghan mujahedeen killing of 269 Soviet aircraft with 340 such missiles [early Stingers], 2) Desert Storm evidence that IR missiles produced 56% of the kills and 79% of the Allied aircraft damaged. ..." http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/systems/ircm.htm ... suggests a slight higher practical PK. ;) ||| Romanes eunt domus ||| zzzspace V2.0 REAL SOUND for DCS World - and all Modules |||
GGTharos Posted February 27, 2005 Author Posted February 27, 2005 Yeah, I think the situation in Afganistan was a little different..Su-25 pilots had to change tactics after they realized whatthe singers were doing to them, and I imagine a low-flying helo is pretty much a sitting duck, so given that that Hinds had to land to disembark troops... Also, similar weapons used in Kosovo failed to bring down rescue helos despite multiple attempts, IIRC. So you're right ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

Kula66 Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 And lowered the performance of a/c ... especially helicopters. James
