In the Jug it seems I can spend all my ammo in fairly accurate fire, hit the target many times with almost no effect on the target ability to fly and maneuver.  However in other warbirds it seems a few well placed rounds end the fight.  This picture is an example.  I unloaded on him heavily, and he kept flying like nothing.

What is your average performance on it ?

Performance as in FPS?  or skill in this particular airframe?  I get 40 stable in VR unless I lower to midrange settings and around 80 in 2d prior to MT.  My skill level is not great in Warbirds in general, but good enough to put holes from front to back and down both wings.  When I get that mush damage they tend to go down, but flying the jug against german birds just seems like the planes are invincible sometimes  I dump all my ammo for many hits with no change in performance of the enemy bird.

Yep, it has happened to me as well. Peppered the enemy airplane, and it landed and the pilot was alive. Well, that was before the new ammo that ED updated. Look  in the ME what kind of ammo you are carrying. Check if it is Training or only AP.

The most modern and effective ones are the '43 and '44 ammo belts, with HE-I-AP or API-HE combinations. These are game changer, and the enemy will explode in flames almost all the time you hit them.

ED has had changed it some time ago, and for me at least, it is more in line with what we see in docs and read in books, when WWII pilots say that one trigger squeeze at a fairly close distance and the enemy planes would simply blowup, or catch fire very easily.

I’ve just started flying the Jug and so far- in the instant action dogfights- my complaint is the AI just flying in a circle at whatever its max sustain turn rate is. Just like how the Mig-15 used to just do loops. Hadn’t noticed the damage aspect
