This (and related subjects with other game engines) creeps up regularly. Yes, UE (and Crytec, and Unity and all the others) are phenomenal achievements. Yes, theoretically, DCS can be migrated from their own graphics engine to one offered by a different vendor. But the transition is phenomenally expensive, takes year or more, and the ride on other game engines isn't free (UE et all want a share of the game's proceeds, assets, and service). So AFAIK, ED has very little incentive to risk a huge chunk of cash for possibly some nicer graphics, definitely as many but different bugs as they have today, and lesser income. Well,  never say never; perhaps some day ED will outsource their game engine, and maybe it'll even be UE. I don't think it's in DCS's immediate future (say, next 2-5 years, a mere blink of an eye when we talk about module development times here 🙂)

So it's interesting to see what these showcase videos present, and to read their taglines and promises. The reality is much harsher and different. And it's great to see where the industry is heading.
