MacSurfy Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 I thought this campaign would be beginner friendly... and suddenly I have to do an aerial refueling on Mission 4 already :). It's a bit of a wild contrast to everything else so far which seems to be super simplified. I am enjoying everything else so far, but would have liked to see ATC communication (startup, taxi, take off and landing), but also cold starts like someone else mentioned. 1
Looking Glass Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 (edited) The air to air refuelling is not mission critical. (We may add that in game as a message) The tanker holds a straight line pattern at 323 kts. This set up is about as easy as we can make A2A refuelling for users and we do appreciate its hard. We learnt A2A throuigh playing the campaign. Simply practice flying alongside the tanker at first. Learn to PUSH your wingman to tanker and perform simple manouvres/positioning. Air to Air Refullling Tips: Start off flying alongside tanker to practice formation (323 KTS) Put tankers refuelling pod Top of your HUD window - Maintain 323 Kts Use A/P BALT to hold altitude, helping stay level Try using curves value of 25 on your joystick fo easier handling characteristics Hope that helps Im afraid we have no plans for cold starts. We did try to implement but found the core DCS behavours just would not accomadate this in our mission set ups. Thanks for the feedback Edited September 15, 2023 by Looking Glass 1
MacSurfy Posted April 16, 2023 Author Posted April 16, 2023 Thank u for the tips. I will will have to practice it regardless I guess. Probably a good idea to add it as a message like you said, I assumed you would have to RTB all the way which is about 169Nm. Noticed just now I didn't have to :). Mission completed. Cheers.
Looking Glass Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Practice makes perfect. Once you master A2A, its not that hard
Gribbstar Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 (edited) I couldn't A2A refuel before I spent some time on mission 4. It's well worth learning and really rewarding feeling once you can do it. Edited April 21, 2023 by Gribbstar 1 1
Looking Glass Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Us too, we learnt A2A making IR. Now we love it. Good stuff flyer

We have made it as easy as possible for you Tanking not mission critical, although will affect not receiving highest score Tanker holds straight line pattern at best speed On Screen messaging shows speed of tanker Tanker does nt operate in cloud, orbits, too slow speeds Some practice maybe neccesary for you as a player but we will bear your comments in mind... Thanks
L4key Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 I finally managed A2A refuelling last week after 200hrs in the Hornet! It was mission 12 and wow that is satisfying! The tips are all helpful, I’m not sure what did it for me, it just happened… This is a brilliant campaign by the way. The solo missions like this one and the low level one were fantastic.
