Hey all,

im curious if anyone has experimented with mixed reality at all. I’m aware of a company Viper wing uses what looks like a Varro xr3. That set is insanely expensive though at nearly 8k.

i spotted acer and hp mr goggles, which seem to be available second hand quite cheap at around 300 or so.

I also spotted a meta quest pro at a stiff 1200, but at least it’s a more recent model.

anyone used any of these? What is it like?

The Acer and HP units are pure VR, not true mixed reality as the varjo xr3 does; they take the MR moniker from the Windows Mixed Reality ecosystem which they work in.

The first gen WMR headsets were actually pretty good at the time, I had a Lenovo explorer that was better than the rift S equivalent from oculus. They have been superceded on all fronts by all modern VR headsets though.

Nice, exactly what i am looking for in the long run. Mixed reality.

Would build a full simpit with greenscreen canopy. Have the greenscreen replaced with the pure ingame world. Could not get any better i think.
Got that XR3 bookmarked. For being 8k, i think that 2000 bucks it apparently costs is absolutely adequate. Still a lot of money, but a premium HOTAS plus rudders goes that area too. Simming is an expensive hobby after all.

Note that the xr3 is also a subscription headset, if you don't pay the subs for the software you can't use it.  This is on top of the initial purchase cost but then it's aimed at enterprise solutions not people pretending to fly planes at home 😄

Ah, been to quick reading. Yet this goes into the right direction. Next years might see some interesting development in that segment. First innovation products on market are always high price, small customer base and the development then gets passed down the ladder to the average customer. Give it a few years 🙂
