Hi

As declared on the radio you need to first dispatch the two on the right, your wing man will not attack these. Make sure your radar is setup correctly, you need to be on HI. Set to TWS and lock them and use your 120's. Immediately after go defensive and look for the other two keep situational awareness using your SA page. Make sure you have your HMD on as you can take the others at nearly 90 degrees to your travel using it with your 9x's.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the feedback what you mentioned is exactly how i do it. I can take out the 1st two with the 120's i fire two 120's once the 120's go pitbull i go defensive and manage to get the 3rd with the sidewinder, but the 4th he just gets on my tail and i cant get him off i find this a lot in DCS it is probably just me i have never been that good at AA combat. Is your wingman supposed to attack at all? As when i view tacview as i mentioned the 4th just sticks to me like glue where ever i turn he turns it's like he knows what i am going to do! and my wingman just seems to follow and never takes a shot.

This is where my hate for DCS comes in and i know it is a hot topic and not your issue or fault, but if we could somehow save just before an engagement like this it would make the learning a whole lot faster. i don't get a lot of time maybe one go a night if i am lucky and this mission isnt 2 bad as you get to this point relatively quickly, but i find it starts to get repetitive and frustrating and once you pass if you do i forget how to do the other things as it might have been weeks not doing a certain task, like mavericks, GPS bombs or case 3 landings etc.

Anyway i might skip this one and move on and come back later.

on another note i have played all your campaigns and i find by far yours have been my favourite. Thanks Again.

Thanks for the kind words.

Your wing man should be attacking. I will take a look this end to see the issue. If you have Tacview please send me the file it is very useful trying to track down a bug. Also which version of the campaign are you using and are you closed beta or open beta. Finally are you running any mods. This can impact any DLC campaigns in very strange ways. Never use mods with any DLC campaign.

A little tip if you have quite large gaps between use, is for you to make your own brief notes of how to use each weapon. In this way your not back to square one if you haven’t played for a good while, a quick scan of your notes and your quickly back in the loop again.

I will update this if I find anything.

EDIT:

Just checked out the normal version of Mission 1 using Openbeta with no mods. All works well. I have sent you a PM with Tacview and some advice.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Badger633 appreciate you looking into it i checked out your Tacview. It is most likely me i have always struggled with the hornet radar and AA combat. I am on open beta latest update and no mods, i know when i first started this mission i had a issue switching between targets in TWS which i was told you have to double press nose wheel steering it still doesnt seem to work that well for me i seem to keep locking onto the same target it doesnt seem to switch how it should again probably me! Anyway i tried again tonight twice as i was determined to not let it beat me and i got shot down twice so it has beaten me i have now skipped it as i am going insane.

Thanks Again keep up the good work.

Hi Danos,

Maybe this link will help you. A lot of thing are explained here. for me it was an eye-opener:

My loadout:

2 x 9x

4 x aim 120 B I think the have faster and better acceleration and better maneuverability. But that can also be me 😉

My tactic wit the 4 f5's:

When i have a lock on the nearest one i shoot 2 120's That keep them bussy. Than i bank to the left or to the right. While doing that i drop flares. My wingman has also shot one down in the meantime. Then i finish them off at close combat with the 9x's. Most of the time it was succesfull for ME.

Oh and by the way, i like the campaigns Badger.

I hope you also make some nice campaigns for the f16👍

Thanks Rinze, you’re right that is a great video I often send the link out to fellow pilots. The Hornet radar can be effective if used correctly. Also the head mounted display with the 9xs is deadly.

I fly in VR a 100% and find when in close quarters having the SA page open at say 10 miles is excellent for knowing where all the bandits are.

Danos you should find that video and some practice with the radar should help. Also remember to go to expanded view (EXP button bottom left) when changing targets in TWS.

I have purposely given  four 120s so you can use sacrificial missiles to make your enemy start defensive moves which will put you at an advantage.

Thanks @Rinze have already used that video and most of my setup of the radar is based on this. All good, will move on with Campaign and i normally like to do badgers campaigns a few times so hopefully second time round i will be more successful.

Hey, glad you stuck with it and beat the mission.

Yes my campaigns have been designed to give you additional challenges on a progressive basis which  will increase your knowledge and skill Flying the Hornet. All tied together with a continuous developing plot line throughout the series to make it more interesting.

Better buckle up for Mission 9 part 2, it can be a handful.😉
