I have seen lots of criticism of the map by content creators saying it was too duplicative but I'm guessing none of them have actually been to Egypt. Based on this pic I think OnReTech nailed it.

That's Israel rather than Egypt, but your point stands. Rapid growth makes for lots of duplication, and given the climate and the need to keep costs down closely-packed flat roofed concrete boxes are the rule. 1
