markturner1960 Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 Trying to track down the causes of the freezes on my main PC when using the quest pro. It looks like it’s PC related rather than headset related, but I need to understand more about how the headset works when using the link cable and a PC VR app such as DCS to try and narrow down what’s going on. I know the headset has onboard chipset and memory etc, but don’t understand what this does and what it relies on to generate the image in the headset. I am hoping there may be someone here who has a deeper knowledge of how this works. So when it freezes, the headset itself stays working, just DCS freezes in the headset. If the signal gets interrupted for some reason, how and why does this freeze the VR app? How is the signal encoded and at which end, PC or headset? thanks System specs: PC1 :Scan 3XS Ryzen 5900X, 64GB Corsair veng DDR4 3600, EVGA GTX 3090 Win 10, Quest Pro, Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo monitor.
Sile Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 Do you have turbo mode (OpenXR Toolkit) enabled by any chance? For me DCS freezes every time i have turbo mode enabled and take off the headset. I have read about at least one other person with the same problem plus occasional freezes when switch to/from F10 map. Maybe try turbo mode off.

Pc is obviously busy rendering the whole game, then compressing the video for the headset and sending it through the cable, the headset has to decompress the video using its puny little mobile chip. Momentary freezes may be caused by the headset not being able to decode in real-time and too high bitrate may be an issue. Big freezes and crashes are usually a symptom of something wrong on the pc side. markturner1960 Posted June 22, 2023 Author Posted June 22, 2023 Thanks, the turbo mode may be something to look at, I think I was using it, but cant be 100%, I have been messing around with settings so much lately in search of the ideal combination! Please keep the suggestions coming! System specs: PC1 :Scan 3XS Ryzen 5900X, 64GB Corsair veng DDR4 3600, EVGA GTX 3090 Win 10, Quest Pro, Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo monitor.
