murdoc311 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 (edited) I have an 8800GT with 4gigs of ram. I have most of the latest games out and I play them all on full setting. I can even run crysis on decent settings. With that said I’m having some serious framrate issues with Black Shark. Even when there is not much on the screen I’m running around 20-25 fps. On mission with lots of vehicles and activity I have dropped all the way down to 2-5 fps. I really don’t think DCS is that graphically intensive to warrant such low framrates. Anyone having the same issues and if so have you found a fix? …future patch maybe? :helpsmilie::helpsmilie::helpsmilie: Edited February 28, 2009 by murdoc311
ZaltysZ Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I really don’t think DCS is that graphically intensive to warrant such low framrates. That's right, and low frame rates in DCS are related more to CPU than GPU. You have not mentioned your OS and CPU. If you have Vista and multi core CPU, you can try affinity trick to increase FPS. Search the forum ("affinity" is good keyword). Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
glottis Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I started out with around 20fps, now I have about 40-50. For me, the biggest things that increased frame-rate were: 1. Affinity trick as ZaltysZ says. It only works in Vista. Although you can make the change manually each time, using this utility makes it much easier and gives you a nice launcher. 2. Turn water effects down to medium. Sounds silly, but due to an inefficiency in the engine, this actually increases frame rate by a lot.

Sorry, I'm running vista 64 and i don't have my cpu specs handy but its an intel quad something or other. and I'll look into this affinity thing. (sorry I'm at work atm) Edited February 28, 2009 by murdoc311
EtherealN Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 That file is everything you need. You do need to authorize it every time you start it though for it to be capable of setting the affinity, an operation that requires some priviliges. If you do not have administrator priviliges on your machine then this might be an issue. (It is safe to use it tho, it's just a thing with how Vista operates.) The water setting is one of the regular graphics settings that you set in the options screen within Black Shark. There is a minor issue with how the engine renders water effects that causes a slow-down even if you do not currently have any water showing on your screen. murdoc311 Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 Thanks for the help guys. When I get home I'll give it a shot. Hopefully this will resolve my framerate issue.
