Coolhand101e Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Hello, Today, I decided to learn how to takeoff from ramp in the AH-64D. I guess I chose the wrong airfield to do it, because all my attempts at St Catherine failed. I hear a hydrolic failure message after turning on APU. Do all the necessary steps that follow, and when I get to the starter switch for Engine 1, nothing happens. I then tried the same procedure on Caucasus map, works fine, helicopter starts no problem. I went back to Sinai map, at Ramon airfield. It started no problem. I tested various parkings at St Catherine, they all failed. I tried, takeoff from ground near parking spots, it failed. I even tried takeoff from ground just outside the airfield circle, it failed. It also failed at the helipad to the West of St Catherine. If I make the AH-64D available as start from parking HOT at St Catherine, it works though. I just seem to have picked the absolute worst place to start learning to do a cold start today!! Maybe the Southern part of the Sinai map is still pretty much a work in progress (weird things happen there )... Too bad, because it has some of the most interesting terrain to fly in.

Coolhand101e Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 OK, I guess this "elevation/altitude related" inability to start engines must be AH-64D specific, because I also tried to cold start the Huey at St Catherine and it worked. I will check at various altitudes and locations with it though. Interesting. Thanks for the reply.
