Tweety777 Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Hey guys, Currently I'm leaning towards buying a RX 7800XT (most likely the Asrock Phantom Gaming, it looks so good) but I'm not yet really sure what kind of performance I can expect from it, has anyone tried it yet? I will use it at first on a 16:9 1440P 165Hz 27" monitor which is on the list to be degraded to second monitor besides an Alienware AW3423DWF, also at 1440P 165Hz but 21:9. It would be lovely to be able to get maximum performance out of the Alienware. I currently have a Ryzen 5 5600G processor which I could replace in the future by a Ryzen 7 5800X. Thanks in advance. AMD Ryzen 5700X3D, RX7900 XTX, 48GB 27" 1440P monitor and Oculus Quest 2. WinWing Orion 2 w/ FA18 throttle, VKB Gladiator EVO w/ F14 grip, Logitech G rudder pedals, TrackIR 5, WinWing MFD (2x), WinWing UFC and Voice Attack. Planes: F14A/B Tomcat, mostly the B, F/A 18 C Hornet, F4E Phantom II, F16 Fighting Falcon Modules/ maps: Super carrier, Nevada, Persian Gulf, Kola
SuperKermit Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 I really would like to know as well how the RX 7800XT performs in DCS! But judging the recent MS Flight Simulator Benchmarks it should be quite good!
Tweety777 Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 Well, if no-one has any benchmarks yet, I'll try and make something in that region myself, though I don't yet know how. It certainly seems to be a really good choice for what I want from it. My brother who is mostly into shooters said that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D would be a better processor to accompany this GPU considering I have an AM4 motherboard so upgrading to a 7800X3D would be like buying an entirely new PC (my current PC is just 1 year old now). AMD Ryzen 5700X3D, RX7900 XTX, 48GB 27" 1440P monitor and Oculus Quest 2. WinWing Orion 2 w/ FA18 throttle, VKB Gladiator EVO w/ F14 grip, Logitech G rudder pedals, TrackIR 5, WinWing MFD (2x), WinWing UFC and Voice Attack. Planes: F14A/B Tomcat, mostly the B, F/A 18 C Hornet, F4E Phantom II, F16 Fighting Falcon Modules/ maps: Super carrier, Nevada, Persian Gulf, Kola
SuperKermit Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Did you buy the RX 7800 XT and are you using it with DCS now? Is it possible to max out all settings?
Tweety777 Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 Right now I don't have the money to buy 1, I do intent to buy 1 when I do have the money though. AMD Ryzen 5700X3D, RX7900 XTX, 48GB 27" 1440P monitor and Oculus Quest 2. WinWing Orion 2 w/ FA18 throttle, VKB Gladiator EVO w/ F14 grip, Logitech G rudder pedals, TrackIR 5, WinWing MFD (2x), WinWing UFC and Voice Attack. 101st Lonestar AUT Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Would be interresting for me as well - especially in combination with the 5800X3D-CPU and in virtual reality! If anyone can could provide that info... :-) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Tweety777 Posted November 10, 2023 Author Posted November 10, 2023 When I get it I will make a benchmark video to the best of my abilities. Here is a benchmark video with my 5600G and RTX 2060. 1 AMD Ryzen 5700X3D, RX7900 XTX, 48GB 27" 1440P monitor and Oculus Quest 2. Tweety777 Posted March 25, 2024 Author Posted March 25, 2024 Since I started this a lot has happened. Most important thing that happened is that I got myself into VR and liked this so much that I decided that a 7800XT wasn't going to cut it for me. Therefore I now got myself a 7900XTX, which proves to be completely overkill for 1440P DCS (I don't get below 100FPS and regalurly get up to 180FPS limited), but since the latest update 1-2 weeks ago I can't turn on VR anymore because then the game refuses to even start anymore. Needles to say, I'm not going to be able to make a 7800 XT benchmark video. AMD Ryzen 5700X3D, RX7900 XTX, 48GB 27" 1440P monitor and Oculus Quest 2. DCS is running fine for me and never stopped with the latest DCS & Quest updates. I own and ran a 6800XT for the last 6 months before upgrading to a 7900XTX for VR. The 6800XT ran DCS on my 55" LG 4K TV with near-max settings and was rarely unable to match the TV's native 60Hz refresh rate. One day I hooked my rig up to an old 32" Acer 144Hz gaming monitor and was seeing over 100 FPS. I don't remember the specifics. 100 FPS is cool... but I'd rather fly in 4K at 60 FPS. Anyhow. Bottom line is you'll be perfectly happy with a 7800XT at 1440p. https://imgur.com/a/mHDSsZv System: 7800X3D - 4090 FE - 64 GB 6000/CL30 - (2x) 1TB 980 Pro - TM Warthog - Winwing MFDs & PTO2 - Quest 3 DCS: A10C-II (Brrrrrtttt!), F/A-18, F-16, SC, FC3, all maps except WWII
Tweety777 Posted March 30, 2024 Author Posted March 30, 2024 Well, you are not retarded, this topic is all about the 7800XT, regardless of which GPU I put into my PC. I just tested with VR in multiplayer, this wasn't playable on the RTX 2060 but now with higher graphics settings I still get above 60FPS even starting from a carrier. First attempt ended in the ocean right across the deck from where I spawned because the image in the VR froze even though my PC was rendering images at above 60FPS still. If your signature is up to date my PC will be very similar to yours in the near future, so sharing information on our VR experience would be greatly appreciated, though I have a Quest 2 and you a Quest 3. 1 AMD Ryzen 5700X3D, RX7900 XTX, 48GB 27" 1440P monitor and Oculus Quest 2.
