oh no, fratricide. What does it mean to lose points?

I'm so disappointed in myself... but I'm still very new.  Still should have known better.  Was flying the helo hunter mission for f15c.  Anyway, what does it mean that I "lost all my (combat) points"?

You gain points, ranks, awards and medals for your profile. Killing an ally only means you lose all combat points for that particular mission. Nothing else.

You can see your stats in the "Logbook" option in DCS main menu.
