Greg_Mid_TN Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 I have finally broken down and ordered lenses for my Reverb G2 so my old eyes can see in VR. My system: AMD 7800x3d on Asus B650E. 64G Ram at 6000mz. 6950xt for video card. My fps is choking out at 18fps with all the settings set at low. Adrenaline software shows the 6950 is not even being pushed. Downloaded OpenXR toolkit and messed with setting for 2 days from default to CAS to FSR to Turbo. Windows VR seems fine and Steam VR the same (not running DCS through Steam but other games). Borrowed my grandson's 3070 on a lark and it gets 45fps solid as a rock with medium settings - no issues with VR. I'm so frustrated - I'm not bashing ED, but what could I be doing wrong? Even with default settings and no other tweaks, the 6950 is worthless in VR. Not in VR it runs 3 monitors at 90+ fps while the second monitor is running YT and the third screen is used for exports. 50 bucks for lenses is not a great loss, but I do love flying in VR... Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions. Ruddle.
Comante Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 When this happen to me, then I discover that 6 month ago I forced FPS limit in GPU control panel, for some unsuspectin reason when I used a monitor instead of VR. There is probably something that say to your GPU to hold the brake.
CptBligh Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Have you tried enabling safe mode in Open XRTK application? MSI Z690 Edge | 12700k | 64GB DDR4 3200 | RTX 4080 Super | Varjo Aero
Greg_Mid_TN Posted November 3, 2023 Author Posted November 3, 2023 I not tried safe mode, but I'll give it a shot. Thanks! Ruddle.
mrsylvestre Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 (edited) Same GPU here but you have better CPU and RAM. With my 6950XT, I get a solid 72 fps in the Caucasus with the F-14 on a Pico 4, which is more demanding than your G2. Something is clearly amiss on your system. You should get better performance with your 6950XT than with the borrowed 3070. Perhaps you should start by eliminating possible trouble by disabling the OpenXR toolkit. Also check that you are not supersampling inadvertently much beyond the resolution of your headset, either in the DCS VR setting (let PD = 1) or in your VR runtime. For DCS, I use 2740x2740 pixels per eye as VR resolution for the 2160x2160 pixels Pico 4 panels, beyond that the fps degrade fast. This is with the QuadViews api layer added. Without QuadViews (which I don't suggest to install before you find the source of trouble, because it would be an additional layer of complexity), I wouldn't go above 2540x2540 pixels per eye to maintain 72 fps. Greg_Mid_TN Posted November 5, 2023 Author Posted November 5, 2023 Update: After 2 days of intense fiddling around, I now have stable fps... in the left screen only!!! The right screen is stable until I move my head then it will stutter .If I continue to move my head then the left finally begins to stutter. If I just wiggle my head just a little the left will remain fine, but the right stutters. I've seen one other post on the interwebs with another G2 owner with this issue, but AMD did not respond on their forum. I thought maybe there was a problem with the cable insert to the headset, but I can't see anything (and it would have presented on the 3070 used to test if that were the case). Changed the DP port twice to eliminate the other end. At this point I have changed so many things chasing this problem, I'm going to wipe the PC, re-install everything from the ground up and start over. If I can repeat all the issues while using the 6950xt and then putting the 3070 in again and confirming no stutter (eliminating the G2 as the issue), the 6950xt is going in the bin and I'm getting a 4080 or 4090 and be done with AMD cards. Thanks for the suggestions and help. Ruddle.
Greg_Mid_TN Posted November 7, 2023 Author Posted November 7, 2023 Final update: it's the 6950xt... Wiped the system, installed new windows 11 and made sure all BIOS updates and drivers were up to date. Installed only WMR and DCS. Same issue with the right screen. Re-installed 3070 and drivers only, no issues. Guess I'll use the 3070 until Black Friday or Xmas and hope for a sale on a 4080. Thanks for all the suggestions. Ruddle.
