Distiler Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 (edited) I just read a thread in off-topic forum (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=39700) about using 3rd party maps (yahoo, google, etc.) into Flight simulator using applications like Tileproxy (stream) and maps2bgl (non stream). Can a terrain mod use something like this? Look at the videos, it's fraking amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSRju-muVuM&feature=channel_page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzGzFH3CWkY&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhMBmKkqpbo&feature=related Up to 30cm/pixel if the map area is in high resolution. I mean, after seeing this, everything else is crap XD Edited March 23, 2009 by Distiler 1 AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
Vesperatus Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I must say the first video looks very sweet but with an helicopter, I dont think it would look that good since all the trees are actually 2d textures. in fact, everything is 2D textures. That things, in combination with some manual mapping would prove really awesome.
iRocco Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Way too static, i agree, nothing for a heli sim, the waves dont move, no 3d objects, but for a non combat flight sim, quite nice. some more years and we might have those graphics in 3d.
Sharkster64 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Awe man, that is sweet!!! I look forward to sims getting into that kind of detail. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Call Sign: Warhammer
Szelma Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 There is link to topic on AIRLINERS... http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/aviation_hobby/read.main/113634/1/ Last version to download: http://www.g-daehling.de/fs2004/modules.php?name=Downloads&op=view&lid=19 I dont know how to run it. All time it crash like Distiler wrote.
oritpro Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Umm, tileproxy is on Sourceforge. I bet if enough of us BS fans plead with the developers and send them a pint now and then they might be willing to add support. crazysundog Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Wow, that looks amazing at altitude.... When 3D tree models with collision detection is available, I'll be there for sure!!
Shaman Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 (edited) This is what we are achieving with X-plane 9.xx version and plug-in. It takes long to compile 1x1degree of textures, but the final effect you can see here: <- not my own screenshots, but these actually convinced me to use the plug in. Notice that it is default terrain mesh included with retail copy of X-Plane 9. Textures you can load from all different services. I recommend Virtual Earth.
