I've just recently learned to do the full startup of the Ka-50. Or so it seems. When I start up the Ka-50 on my own, the green and black buttons on the left cockpit panel(auto-turn to target, for example) don't work, whether I click them or hit the appropriate keystroke. They don't even light up when pressed. I've noticed that this problem is also present when the instructor starts up the chopper in the training video for helicopter start-up. However, the buttons work as they should when I use the cheat command to execute the full start-up sequence.

I simply can't figure out what I'm doing wrong when I start it up myself. I've checked the start-up checklist in that stickied thread and tried to figure out what I'm doing wrong by watching when using the automated start-up cheat. Can someone look at my lastmission track and tell me what I'm doing wrong? That would be much appreciated.

Edit- Okay, the buttons are actually black with green rectangular lights on them, not blue.

You are not providing power to the Weapon Control System (WCS).

Switch the WCS on, and you will be fine.

(the WCS switch is on the right of the Ejection seat controls)

Mmh i've the same problem, but i'm almost sure to switch the WCS on. I'll check this on my next ramp start.

Strange is auto-turn, and moving ground target works fine, even the buttons are not lit.

Your startup order is also strange. For example, you turn things on, whose require AC power, but rotor RPM are still to low for generators to work and you don't use external power source - it is the same as turning old TV on before pluging it into mains outlet.

I looked at your track file again and for certain you have the WCS off, but that’s not the only problem .You are not setting the throttle levers to AUTO position You will need both engines running fully in order for the shaft to turn the generators and supply power to the onboard batteries. Note that if you had used the external power source ( and the WCS was on of course) you would have enough power for the targeting mode control panel.

After check, it's work fine for me with WCS on.

Thanks a lot, turning on WCS worked like a charm. As for the throttles, however, I'm pretty sure you're supposed to set the throttles to auto, not max; I recall at least one instance of an ED member mentioning on these forums that the max throttle setting is is mainly for emergencies, such as if one of your engines is shot out. For leaving it on too long isn't exactly healthy for your engines. Besides, it seems to start up fine when I use the auto setting. I will, however, try starting the Black Shark with ground power and see if that makes any sort of difference.

Yeah, I doubt my startup process would be satisfactory in real life. I've only recently learned to do the full startup of the Ka-50, so my method at the moment is simplified to be easier to remember; I like to get as many of the switches on a single pass as possible. Truth be told I'm still learning all of the Black Shark's functions, so getting the startup sequence perfect isn't my prime concern at the moment. I'll likely perfect it later on, however.

Thanks everyone

Joz, he didn't say that you should set the throttles to maximum, he said you didn't have them in auto. I haven't watched the track though but you basically want to move them to auto as soon as you have the APU off, and then hit the generators.

Once you have the generators on, you can start activating more systems.

Oh, whoops. Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than what I thought I saw, heh. I guess I'll start setting the throttles to auto after shutting down the APU from now on. Thanks for your feedback.
