wazandy Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Hey guys. I've got a GTX295 card and a new i7 processor. Any noobie ideas as to how I can push these to help out with DCS BS performance? (Is the 295 the equivalent of two cards, god, I don't know..)
KungFu Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 What performance issues are you seeing? I have an E8500 4GB and an 8800GT 1GB running on vista 64 and I never drop below around 50 fps with everything maxed, even forcing AA in the nvidia tools. I have vsync on, so I don't know how high it goes above 60 Make sure your drivers are updated from the nvidia site first thing. EtherealN Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Which model i7, which clock speed do you have it running at, and do you have hyperthreading enabled? Some people have reported performance gains on disabling hyperthreading. It would also be highly relevant to know what operating system you are using, RAM amount, whether you are using any affinity trick an so on. GregP Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Hey guys. I've got a GTX295 card and a new i7 processor. Any noobie ideas as to how I can push these to help out with DCS BS performance? Absolutely! Here's what you do - package them up all nice and safe, drop them in the mail addressed to my house, and I promise to make downright splendid use of them in boosting up my framerates. :) Short of that, I guess overclocking the i7 wouldn't hurt; if BS is anything like LockOn - and I believe it is - CPU power is just as important, if not more so, than GPU power. When I overclock my E6700 from 2.66 to 3.5, I see a pretty linear increase in framerate in LockOn.
AlphaInfinity Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 (edited) If you are running the corei7 920, you can easily overclock this processor to 3.2ghz with air cooling. It is a great clock speed that doesn't sacrifice stability/heat for performance. I am currently running mine at 1920X1200. I am running a GTX260-192 by the way so you might see a very slight increase in framerates with the 295. Some claim to get 50 FPS with "everything" maxed out but I would highly suggest you have water set on "normal" because this has resulted in a 50% frame rate decrease for most of us and I highly doubt they have AA&AF on 16x and 16Q at a high res like these shots below.
