SrSosio Posted December 27, 2023 Posted December 27, 2023 Hi guys. I'm lightly upgrading my setup with better but still not top of the line components. Maybe in 2 or 3 years time I'll consider a full PC replacement, but for now I just want to some not-as-expensive upgrades. A couple of days ago I replaced my Ryzen 7 3800X for a 9 5900X (it was about 329€, the 5950X is still 520). I'm now planning to replace my 4x8GB RAM cards by a 2x32 kit. I know for RAM the lower CL number, the better, but also the higher the frequency the better too, so I'm debating between two Corsair Vengeance LPX kits. One is 3200 CL16 for 129€ and the other is 3600 CL18 for 149€. I assume, since the latter is more expensive, that it's better to have a higher frequency, even if it's at a cost of a slightly higher latency, but what are your thoughts about it? And then the next and biggest upgrade I'm considering at a short term period is the GPU. I do have an EVGA 3070 XC3 Ultra Gaming, which is not bad, but I do play in VR, so I could probably use more power, so I'm considering either a 3090, which I can find used for around 700-800€, from sellers with good reviews, or 4080 for about 1000-1100 also used. I lean more towards the first option, but I would also like to know your opinion. I know the 50 series is expected to come by late 2024, but I do not expect to replace the PC so early, so I might just skip this series and just do a full replacement of the PC for the next one. Thank you

Thank you Hi, I have a friend with a lot of experience on DCS having been there from the start...He posted me a shot the other day showing his PC running at 42Gb on 4Ya Syria server. So I am instantly upgrading my Ram to 64Gb. If you go on SCan computers UK... they explain the uses of ram and are available to chat (support) and check you are buying the right ram for your Board!! its not necessarily the faster Ram either. Or your chosen PC provider in Beautiful Spain where you live. Also loook at your pagefile settings in windows, this allocates a section of your drives to act as ram in the event of overspill on your installed ram...All has a major affect on gameplay. Textures are the major key in DCS... he reduced them and saved 10Gb in ram. Hope this helps Regards Edited December 27, 2023 by Marshallman 3XS AMD RyzenTM 7 9800X3D, AM5, Zen 5, 8 Core, 16 Thread, 4.7GHz, 5.2GHz Turbo, ASUS PRIME X870-P WiFi AM5 DDR5 PCIe 5.0 ATX Motherboard,Nvidia Geoforce RTX4090,Corsair Vengeance Grey 64GB 6000MHz AMD EXPO DDR5 Memory Kit,Windows 10 Pro Reverb G2V2

Overall latency is a factor of speed and CAS latency (CL). You can compare the two kits using this calculator and see that they're actually identical in this respect. If the extra cost isn't an issue, I'd go for the 3600. 1 Asus Z690 Hero | 12900K | 64GB G.Skill 6000 | 4090FE | Reverb G2 | VPC MongoosT-50CM2 + TM Grips | Winwing Orion2 Throttle | MFG Crosswind Pedals
