STECS STEM module used by itself?

I have a STECS Standard paired with a SEM-V, but I'm thinking of purchasing a STECS ATEM module and swapping that out for the STEM module on the throttle. I would then like to use the STEM mounted to a MFH on my right hand side, to act as a control panel to compliment the throttle. Would I have to purchase another SEM with a USB controller and connect the STEM to that? Would that work?

An alternative idea; instead of purchasing another SEM, I have a Gladiator K joystick mounted on my right. Is it possible to connect the STEM to that using the SYS port?
