Virtual CVW-5 is a DCS MilSim Group that is based on the North American west coast. At CVW-5, we define MilSim through tactical operations and expectations of knowledge. This means that as a group, we strive to simulate as closely as possibly the tactical operations of real world Naval Aviators. To do this we expect that you obtain a minimum amount of knowledge on the procedures governing the aircraft of your choice which we ensure through the use of a regimented training syllabus. Where we draw the line is in the administrative aspects. We do not conduct multi-hour briefings or debriefings, our missions are considerably shorter than real life sorties, and we do not impose any form of military discipline.

We accept DCS players of all skill levels that are looking for a realistic experience.CVW-5 has a multi-tiered training program. All members begin with Primary Flight Training. Primary Flight Training lasts 4 weeks and is conducted in the free T-45 Goshawk mod. This training covers topics that are universal to all aircraft operations in CVW-5. This means that newer virtual pilots develop necessary skills for future success and experienced virtual pilots become familiar with CVW-5’s procedures. Moreover, this time serves as an evaluation period for both the group and the member to decide if CVW-5 is a good fit. Members are required to successfully qualify in the subjects of initial training.
Once you are assigned to your permanent squadron, you will begin participating in the operations, including missions, of the squadron while completing qualification training on your desired airframe. Once your qualify on your airframe, we have several additional skill sets you can learn including:

  • Landing Signal Officer (LSO)
  • Forward Air Controller-Airborne (FAC-A)
  • Aggressor Pilot
  • Instructor Pilot
