Divinorium Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 (edited) I can bomb, I can evade half what is thrown at me, and I can fly...but I cannot for the life of me dogfight. I fly the F-15, well, mainly because it is the only fighter that I have a tutorial for and I don't understand the russian HUD symbols. I can fly the F-15 and can fly decently against AI, however for whatever reason I cannot use a lot of the missiles and the tutorial for what it does explain pretty much tells me 'Fire and Forget'...it can't be that simple at long range (which is what I tend to go for because if I get too close I can kiss my...goodbye). However the long range missiles (and this could be my complete lack of understanding between the weapons) only lock at roughly 5nm out, I can get that lock with any other ready mode. According to the tutorial I have to individually select targets from my radar, however I can't even see the targets on my radar until the 5nm lock auto engages. That and I'm confused on what tuts I have to use as some say not to use if my game is later than 1.1, which I'm flying Flaming Cliffs fully updated so that would make my version later than 1.1? EDIT: Scratch that, just found out Ironhand has them all as video files to be played. Edited April 14, 2009 by Divinorium
sniffer Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 (edited) So You find the best place to learn IMO but You should know that You can change in options (Cockpit) unreadable to You letters in Russian planes... Edited April 15, 2009 by sniffer [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RedTiger Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 If you're looking for help on the actual "dogfight" part, meaning within visual range combat, this is an excellent resource: http://www.simhq.com/_air/acc_library.html Pay special attention to anything written by Andy Bush. Pay EXTRA special attention to the "It's All a Matter of Perspective" series: http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_020a.html Reading those were like a light bulb turning on. 1
pauldy Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Hi~ If you're using the F-15, you must check out Ironhand's video tutorials http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/a2a.htm He also has some tutorials on the Su-27. What do you mean you can only lock at 5 nm? Are you using the LRS or the TWS of the F-15? You must also continuously scan your radar antenna up or down to see if their are enemy aircraft above or below you. If you can't see your targets, their probably above or below your radar scan zone ;) 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

If you can't see your targets, their probably above or below your radar scan zone ;) Yea, I have a few of Ironhand's video tuts right now. I think the 5nm lock is a loadout issue, I'm having better success choosing my own loadout at the moment. I know about the LRS and TWS on the F-15, and usually scan the radar up and down until I get activity. Reading Andy Bush's "It's All a Matter of Perspective" right now, this is helping a great deal and is exactly what I was looking for (I'm oddly better at reading something and putting it to use than watching the same thing)...I'll continue to read that as I'm only part of the way through the first part and see where I am at that point. Thank you for all the help fellow pilots! Salute!:matrix:
