MBot Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I loved that movie so much when I was a kid, I watched it over and over again. In the days before the wealth of information and mass media from the internet, that footage was pure gold. And it is still today. I even think this movie has more to do with the mythical reputation of the Tomcat than Top Gun. For me it definitely sparked my interest in military aviation. It also represents my favorite era of carrier aviation. A lot of classic planes (Tomcats, Corsairs, Intruders, Vikings), colorful high-vis markings and a lot of dogfighting with unreliable radar AAMs and rear-aspect heaters. Not this super boring grey Hornet monoculture. Long live the high-vis Tomcats of the late 70s/early 80s :)
