mkel2010 Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 I created a mission on the Normandy 2.0 Map to practice ground attack. I placed a number of ground units at an airport along with several Bf-109s at what the map identifies as parking areas. However, when I fly the mission, the 109's end up at a different airfield roughly 4 miles away and on the opposite end of that airfield from where they were placed. I gave these aircraft nothing to do, no triggers or anything else. I just wanted ground targets. Whenever I go back into the Mission Editor, the 109s are right where i put them, but actually flying the mission they aren't. Admittedly, I'm new at this so I might have done something wrong but this certainly seems like a bug to me.
Solution diego999 Posted April 7, 2024 Solution Posted April 7, 2024 (edited) Try setting the 109's group to "uncontrolled". It's one of the main options in the right panel when you select them. Another thing you can do is put a static plane instead of a "live" one. For that you have the "add or modify static object" on the left icon column. Edited April 7, 2024 by diego999
Raisuli Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 If the parking spot you put them on doesn't have the right settings the ME will find a spot...somewhere. It's a lot more common to run into that with large aircraft than something as small as a fighter, but I suspect the same rules apply. On the other hand that generally happens in the ME and not just when the mission runs, so this might be something else. As Diego999 said if you don't want them to actually do anything, and that includes dying, make them static. If you want to blow them up make them uncontrolled AI. The damage models are different, or at least that's been my experience.
rob10 Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 (edited) And it would be worth posting your mission so someone else can see if they are having the same issue and why. IIRC somebody else was having issues with things moving like that (static objects in that case I believe) on the Sinai map. Can't remember what the solution was, but maybe take a look in the Sinai sub-forum. Edited April 7, 2024 by rob10

I haven't actually been able to hit any of them yet (hence the practice nature of the mission) so I don' know if I can actually blow them up. 1
diego999 Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 (edited) Here it is. It only appears when you set the planes to "take off from ramp" (cold start). As @Raisuli says, static stuff has a different (and sometimes weird) damage model compared to live units. So, for destruction purposes in a 'real' mission is better to set them to 'uncontrolled' rather than static. In this case, as you're just training, it doesn't matter. But keep that in mind if you start designing more serious missions in the future. Edited April 8, 2024 by diego999 typo
