For me, all the JHMCS MIDS targets were just the standard green, before the patch even. Which I found weird because I made sure to update the main mod, as well as the realistic HUD and JHCMS in OVGME and it seemed like only the base MPD mod was functioning. It could've been user error to be fair, as I just came off a 3–4-month DCS break and just hopped in and re-installed the newest version. I'll make sure to delete all the files and do a fresh install once the next patch comes out for the mod to try it for sure.

Yeah my only suggestion from now is to delete my mod with its addons in the OVGME mods folder then download 2.1.43, open "For F18C" folder and extract its contents in the OVGME mod folder. Activate main mod then the addons.

If you've followed the steps there is a way to check if the mod manager applied the mod correctly by checking if there's a modernmpd.lua in "DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts"

I've been having reports but whenever I test on my end it seems to work fine. I'll reinstall my F18C module and give it another try soon.

Sounds good. I'll keep trying and see if I'm successful.

Reinstalled F18 Module and redownloaded the mod and it works fine. Since you mentioned that modernmpd.lua exist in your f18c module folder, I'm wondering if OVGME is not replacing the original files with the modded one in your case.

Currently I'm using the old JSGME mod manager. Google JSGME there should be multiple sites you can download from. Run the setup and choose to install it in the DCS directory "DCS World Open Beta". It will create a shortcut on your desktop. Run the shortcut and it will ask what name do you want the mod folder to be called and type in "JSGME Mods" (This is important). This will create a folder called "JSGME Mods" in your DCS directory.

Download ModernMPD v2.1.43.zip and open the zip file. Open "For F18C" and drag the three folders into "JSGME Mods" folder in "DCS World OpenBeta\JSGME Mods".

The mods should appear in JSGME app and just activate all three (Start with ModernMPD first before realistichud and jhmcs). Let me know if it works.

Sorry for the late reply. I have tried to reinstall dcs and I also installed JSGME but it still does not work.

Hello Capncoke, that's the first time i use your mod. Thanks Capncoke for your work.

I have a little problem: with the 2.1.43 version (all mods on), the HMD is blocked between my two monitor.
With Main, realistic mod and without JHMCS mods, HMD works fine in instant action and free flight.
With Main mod and without two mods (realistic, JHMCS), HMD works fine in instant action and free flight.
Without all three mods (main, realistic, JHMCS), HMD works fine in instant action and free flight.

But if i configure only one monitor, with all three mods on, HMD works fine in instant action and free flight.

I conclude there is a problem with JHMCS mod and multi-monitor

Any idea how to fix it ?

Hi. The issue exist with the A10C2 scorpion with multi monitor. Since the JHMCS II uses rendering method that A10C2 uses, the issue also transfers. Only way is to wait for the Devs to fix the scorpion hmd and it will hopefully be fixed.

That's really strange. If I would have to logically guess you could have some sort of file protection that stops any third party apps from modifying files. At this point manually replacing the files by dragging the "mods" folder in one of the three folders into your DCS directory should do it. However, I don't suggest it since you'll have to reinstall your F18 module in order to go back to default and play multiplayer. It's not worth it.

Hello Capncoke,

In your MPD mod, the file named "CautAdvAndMenuPage.lua", (in "6a-FA-18C Modern MPD 2.1.43\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts\Multipurpose_Display_Group\Common\indicator\Pages\MPD")  is the same as the original DCS file. Why did you include it in your mod?

CautAdvAndMenuPage.lua 7.35 kB · 2 downloads

It changes the warning messages on the left mpd to yellow colored font. Pretty sure every file in my mod replaces the one in DCS except for some additions in the SA and HSI folders, and the modernmpd.lua.

Hi @CapnCoke, Thank you for your work here!!

I would like to know how can I adjust the color of the MFD's to green with white fonts,
like in the screenshot for example? (from your older mod)
I would like to keep all your new settings, but try a mixed approach to the display...

Also how can I adjust the HSI fonts to have a thicker drop shadow? In the screenshot below it is clearer to read IMO.

[Maybe add a short FAQ for adjusting this in your mod? (fonts colors sizes and thickness in MFD/AMPCD/JHMCS)]

THANKS!
Ron

For the outline, look in the "MDG_strokesDefs.lua"

Thanks, but did no apparent change.
Tested with only changing the values and then restarting mission (as CapnCoke instructed in one of the posts).
I hope we can get a proper guide/instructions when he's got time.

Cheers

Hi. The thick outline is in the VR version of my old mod. Try using those values

    DMC_outline_thickness = 3.15

    DMC_outline_fuzziness = 6

I took a different approach to adjusting colors in this mod so what I'm about to suggest might not work but worth the try since I used default_material = color in some files.

Try adjusting these lines in material.lua

MDG_materials[MDG_SELF_IDS.LMDI]    = {255, 255, 230, 350}              --FOR SYMBOLOGY

MDG_materials[MDG_SELF_IDS.RMDI]    = {255, 255, 230, 350}                  --FOR SYMBOLOGY

MDG_materials[MDG_SELF_IDS.HI]      = {255, 255, 230, 350}          --FOR SYMBOLOGY

Hi. If I remember correctly the brightness and alpha value was adjusted in the main mod at one point to fix the low brightness caused from a new update. To apply this fix when using JHMCS II mod separately, copy materials.lua in "DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts" and place it in the JHMCS mod folder "DCS World OpenBeta\Your Mod Manager Folder\F18C JHMCS II\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts"

open materials.lua that you just placed in jhmcs II and edit in line 84

-- HMD
materials["HMD_SYMBOLOGY_MATERIAL"]		= {2, 255, 20, 255}

To

-- HMD
materials["HMD_SYMBOLOGY_MATERIAL"]		= {4, 600, 40, 400}

Hi,

Regarding the MPCD's it worked and the color is now green with white fonts, thanks!
Yet I saw no change when adjusting these values in this mod for the AMPCD HSI.
Is there another way to manage the thick outline in this mod? it's hardly readable and your old mod improved it allot.

Cheers!

Sorry for the hiatus. I tested changing those values by setting really high numbers and it does affect.

Try replacing this block to get it exactly like my old mod (vr version). Don't forget to disable then reenable the mod. Also, you dont need to restart the mission to see some changes. What I do is I make changes to the lua files and save. Disable then reenable the mod. Then Right Alt + J to exit the aircraft, then again to enter the aircraft and the changes will be applied.

Quote
if bakeIndicators == true then
    DMC_stroke_thickness  = 0.6
    DMC_stroke_fuzziness  = 0.15

    -- Currently is used for DMC generated fonts black outline
    --DMC_outline_thickness = stroke_thickness * 3
    --DMC_outline_fuzziness = stroke_fuzziness * 1.1

    -- valid for cockpit view, but looks overdone at HUD only view
    DMC_outline_thickness = 3.15
    DMC_outline_fuzziness = 6
else
    --DMC_stroke_thickness  = 0.65
    --DMC_stroke_fuzziness  = 0.42

    -- Currently is used for DMC generated fonts black outline
    DMC_outline_thickness = stroke_thickness * 3
    DMC_outline_fuzziness = stroke_fuzziness * 1.1
end

Updated to add ground designation to jhmcs, and some polishing. Apology for changing the folder structure again. It bothered me that I need to overwrite folders in the mod manager when developing this mod. So I've seperated the F18C and Superhornet again but structured it better than v1. Just open the folder of your aircraft and continue installation from there.

Some changes were done with the font thickness/fuzziness since v2.0 had low fuzziness which I liked but for some reason it affects the font brightness. Therefore I had to do some balancing again between thickness and fuzziness. Hopefully I don't need to touch it again.

For VR users, if you have trouble with the ampcd readability, I suggest going in to f18c modernmpd\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts\Multipurpose_Display_Group\Common\indicator\

and open MDG_strokesdef.lua with any text editor and adjust on line 15 and 16 to this

	DMC_outline_thickness = 3.15
	DMC_outline_fuzziness = 6

This was taken from my old white font green symbology mod VR version. I don't think I'll include a VR version to reduce the amount of folders.

Hi. Thanks for your amazing job with F-18... See, i play on VR and have some vision issues so always try to  get maximun size and sharpeness. i've IPD changed to 40 and tried your workaround for VR, don't noted so much difference. Want to know which value should i change to enlarge fonts, or bold them, in MDF...will be a step forward for me. Thanks and keep pushing!
