Guest snowsurfer Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Purchased and installed Black Shark today. At every screen it says to hit the pause/break button to start. When I hit the pause button it does nothing. Can't get the thing to "unpause". Any suggestions?

EtherealN Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Are you pressing "P"? Do you have a non-standard keyboard? For a standard keyboard, you should have "Pause" and "Break" on the same key (therefore the "Press Pause/Break" thing). They should be found right of the F keys. Many laptops have the key nested under another key, where you have to press and hold a special "fn" key to access the function. MacBooks also do not have the key at all, wherefore you would have to remap it to a different key. I've also been told that some of the ergonomic keyboards from Microsoft also have it on an "fn"-style key. nomdeplume Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 If your keyboard has a "F-lock" button (usually at the top right) you'll need to make sure you turn it OFF in order for the pause key to work (otherwise it might be scroll lock or something). This is the case with my Microsoft wireless keyboard. F-Lock needs to be on in order for the F-keys to function as normal function keys, so unpausing for me means pressing F-lock, Pause, F-lock. Or just remap it in the controls setup screen to something more convenient.
EtherealN Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 There's a lot to be said for dog-standard keyboards, tbh. :P I use a Logitech UltraX keyboard. Costs about 20 dollars and it's survived about 6 years of abuse so far - and in spite of cost and age it does have a few media control keys but, importantly, it's control keys that do not interfere in any way with the standard keyboard layout. No fn key, no F-lock. (It also has the laptop-style thin keys, which I like much better than those horrid normal desktop keyboards.)
