Hi all!

I have been having a lot of stuttering since the old good Alt+Enter, real full screen trick stopped working (I think it was in v2.7 or so). I have checked this in 2 completely different systems and the result is the same. My actual system is compound of: 13900k, rtx 3090, 64gb ddr5 6400, nvme 990pro 2tb, 1000WPSU Be Quiet, 3440x1440, single monitor (not using VR), Win 10. DCS settings maxed but, although stuttering might lower a bit by lowering the settings, it will stillbe there even in much lower settings. Anyway, there is a lot of room in GPU, RAM and CPU available for DCS, so that shouldnt be the reason for the stutters, and in fact, with a much weaker PC than this one, I had perfect stutter free experience when Alt+Enter was working.

I have tried pretty much everything I could think of and everything I have read out there, the damn stuttering is still present. When the Alt+Enter thing worked, I remember that the sim was butter smooth, and more importantly, I remember how the stuttering felt when not enabling the real full screen mode, and the kind of stuttering Im experiencing is exactly the same as the one I had when not using the Alt+enter command, so what bugges me is that Im 100% sure that if the trick would be still working, I would not have a single stutter.

This kind of stuttering does not reflect in riva tunner, since the actual frame rate is perfectly constant (60fps in my case, with plenty of GPU/CPU/RAM/Page file available). I see the stuttering but the frame rate and frame time is PERFECT, so it has to be something with the way the sim present images in the screen. I see the stutters in the internal DCS graph though.

Curious thing is, when in the cockpit, even flying in MP, I dont notice the stutters much if anything, however, if I record a flight (a display for instance), and then I play it, when in the F11 view, and the plane locked, there is a stutter fest. The odd thing is that the stutters seem to happen the most in moments where the GPU usage is particularly low, for example, only the plane in the view with a blue sky behind and the 3090 at 30/40% usage.

Things I have tried:

-Disable CPU core parking (this was very important to avoid tons of problems, but not to solve stuttering)

-Disable full-screen optimisations

-Multiple combinations of FPS limiters (nvidia control panel, riva tunner, in game, 59, 58, 59,94, 60, 60,1 fps)

-nvidia reflex

-Vsync in different options (in game, nvidia cp), on and off (it improves a bit with vsync off, but thats not an option since Im not going to accept screen tearing)

-Enabling full screen in dcs

-HAGS on/off, game mode on/off, ultimate energy profile, etc.

-DCS MT/ST

-Closing MSI AB and Rive Tunner

-Disabling GPU OC

-Adding exceptions to my anti viruses

-Uninstalling tacview

-disabling hot plug

-I have Gsync disabled

-Manually setting a page file equal to my ram (64gb)

-Enable/disable reshade

-Disabling all mods

-Some more I might not recall now

As I said, the "style" of stuttering is the same I remember when NOT entering in real full screen mode back then ( I see the stuttering but the fps are rock solid), so I wonder if any of you have discovered a real solution for this kind of stuttering, or a way to make the real full screen mode to work again??

thanks!

This may seem counter intuitive, but you want to be GPU bound which means you want to add more work for the GPU.  It's okay if you can't stay at 60fps.  I assume your monitor is 60hz.  40fps or 50fps is just fine.  HAGS on, no full screen, Windows Flip Mode Enabled in Windows 11.  Run the highest resolution you can.  If you run MSAA, you can Enhance it to 8x and add transparency antialiasing to make the GPU work even harder.  MSAA x4 in Game, NCP Enhance AA x4 (or higher), Transparency AA Multisample or Supersample if you really want load.  This only works with MSAA, not DLSS or TAA.  I would turn off VSYNC and GSYNC because they let the GPU rest.  Make sure it's off in the monitor, the NCP, and the game. No reflex or low latency mode.

Thanks for your reply!!

Well, I understand what you said, but the stutter happens also in more demending situations. Anyway, the DCS is set as "high performance" in both, nvcp and windows, and clocks in the gpu are stable so the load should not be an issue. Moreover, I have quite extreme settings, including DLAA. Tried with different kinds of AA just in case DLSS had some issues but nope!...is DCS related. Other games run perfect. I bet all this is due to the lack of proper full screen mode.

Im using a 144hz monitor (set to 120hz) and Win 10 btw, already included this info in the main thread. Changing the refresh rate in the monitor did nothing to solve this, tried using 60Hz mode too.

I would love to get back the Alt+Enter trick!🥲
