primus_TR Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I noticed that I don't get a lock-on/ launch warning when a Mig23 launches an R24R at me. This has been quite consistent. I normally get lock/launch warning from SAMs, but not from Mig23. Is this normal behavior or a bug? Track attached. F4EvMig23_R24R.trk
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I noticed the same. I don't get launch warnings when a MiG-25 launches an R-40R at me either. Kalasnkova74 Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 As background, no RWR has an infinite catalogue of threat detection data. In situations where a threat is not in the library it’s considered an “Unknown” . From the manual: When an emitter is detected that does not have a catalog entry, but is recognized by received power, duration, and pulse as being a possible threat, the U indicator on the Unknown button (9) will flash. Pressing the button will provide a U symbol on the RWR CRT at the correct azimuth position for reference and monitoring. The default condition of the Unknown button is with the U symbol illuminated, but steady. OP, can you see if the MiG-23’s considered an “Unknown” contact?
primus_TR Posted June 3, 2024 Author Posted June 3, 2024 It is showing as a recognized radar signature for Mig21/23/F4/F5 etc. I attached a track. You can watch it if interested.
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Jester can see the incoming missile for some reason, so at least there's that Spoiler Ryzen 9 5900X | 64GB G.Skill TridentZ 3600 | Asus ProArt RTX 4080 Super | ASUS ROG Strix X570-E GAMING | Samsung 990Pro 2TB + 960Pro 1TB NMVe | VR: Varjo Aero Pro Flight Trainer Puma | VIRPIL MT-50CM2 grip on VPForce Rhino with Z-curve extension | Virpil CM3 throttle | Virpil CP2 + 3 | FSSB R3L | VPC Rotor TCS Plus base with SharKa-50 grip | Everything mounted on Monstertech MFC-1 | TPR rudder pedals OpenXR | PD 1.0 | 100% render resolution | DCS graphics settings

I was able to detect it myself in the WSO seat.

You have to select Handoff, then you will hear how he changes from his scan PRF of 1000 to 2500 the moment he goes into tracking. He switches at 0:38 in the video: (You can also see how Jester locked a sidelobe, lol)

Cat107 Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 (edited) Even when you are not in handoff mode, the New Guy Audio (three beeps) should be automatically triggered when new emitter is detected or already detected emitter changes its PRF. The beeps frequency will be affected by the PRF of that emitter Regarding the launch warning: ALR-46 isn't able to detect all launches, it's explained a bit more here: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/349725-rwr-launch-warning/#comment-5445912 Edited July 4, 2024 by Cat107 1
