Hice Berg Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 (edited) First of all, Thank you, Heatblur, for this amazing piece of software and history that you guys gave to us. Due to the limitations (at the moment) of Jester 2.0, is there any plan to give keybind access to the "Aspect Switch" and the "Radar Mode" to the pilot? Because right now, without a WSO, we just can't use the boresight mode of the radar without first deactivating Jester. Looking forward to any suggestions. Edited June 4, 2024 by Hice Berg 1
Solution Zabuzard Posted June 4, 2024 Solution Posted June 4, 2024 First of all, Thank you, Heatblur, for this amazing piece of software and history that you guys gave to us. Due to the limitations (at the moment) of Jester 2.0, is there any plan to give keybind access to the "Aspect Switch" and the "Radar Mode" to the pilot? Because right now, without a WSO, we just can't use the boresight mode of the radar without first deactivating Jester. Looking forward to any suggestions."Just giving a bind" isnt a good fix for this for a few reasons. Mostly because it will confuse and partially break Jester and he will also constantly reset and fight it.It is easier (and planned) to just teach Jester to operate the knob properly on his own, without you "playing wso from the pilot seat", than it is to teach him to support players messing with his knobs without consent. That said, in the meantime you can just add the bind yourself by copying it from the Dcs/Mods/F4E/Input/Wso/keyboard/default.lua to the pilots lua. (u can do the same with any aircraft in dcs)But be aware that it's a hacky solution that will have the above mentioned issues. Cheers :) 1

Cheers I see this as less a case of messing with his knobs (after flying with Jester a while I'd really rather not, thank you) and more me telling Jester where his knobs should be. It's not that much different than telling him to set the radar scan to 50 mile wide, which he often ignores. In this case I'm telling him to set a particular aspect based on what I see in the front seat. Given he can see squat from the back seat I don't see the problem.

In this case I'm telling him to set a particular aspect based on what I see in the front seat. Given he can see squat from the back seat I don't see the problem.(The range setting is for standard scan situations, not when he already acquired target focus (cursor not centered), where he will instead adjust the range to match the target)The problem is that its as complex to teach Jester to make this work nice than it is to teach him to just operate the knob on his own. What is the use case to move this knob? There are two:1) Flip the knob through all settings after acquiring a lock to check the values in order to identify a bad lock - then always put it back into showing Vc, the single most important value.2) no-lock "flood" sparrow shotsJester will soon learn to do 1) as part of his track checks and will soon move the knob for 2) by himself whenever you want to make such a shot. There is simply no reason for you to command a knob position yourself. IRL you would also not tell your WSO where to move his knobs, you would instead tell him your intention and he would do the rest himself. It is more difficult on the technical side to create the kind of UX that you envisioned than it is to just do 1) and 2).

Got it! That makes perfect sense; just gotta get Jester trained up! Early access...he still has delusions of adequacy, just like the guy in front! Still want a binding, though, because if I'm chasing a BadGuy(tm) through the weeds trying to manually guide a Sparrow I don't want to deal with the wheel...lessee...Jester, Radar, TREE!!!

It will be automatic, Jester can see the aspect on his screen and choose it himself, like a real WSO :) 1
