SturmVogel Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Dear HB and forum members! When I get lock on the target sometimes it goes wrong (no matter how Im obtain it, via RWS by telling Jester to lock or via ACM mode). Radar tracks something else, but not my target, when traget is right, radar display shows its left. Aim dot goes mad, and when Im change dot mode to "target" dot via V1 mode it looks clearly wrong tracking. Maybe I need turn on Interlock (but it all about launch, not tracking)? Does it all bug or feature of crappy F-4 radar? Jester option for radar elevation looks broken too. When I tell him to change elevation it changes incorrectly at +5 degrees (and back to 0 after using same option) at radar display lineage of elevation (no matter which option from elevation menu Im using). What means +3,500 ft; +5000ft; etc. commands at Jester elevation menu, what physically it means? For wich range this +3,500 ft? BR

Bad locks can happen easily and there are a few things you as pilot have to do to minimize them. But when it happens, you have to retry the lock until its good. The elevation behavior is correct with respect to Jester currently not being accurate enough with it. Which is fixed for the upcoming patch. The ranges are shown in the Jester Wheel, iirc it was 30nm. 1

Solution Zabuzard Posted July 3, 2024 Solution Posted July 3, 2024 (edited) * Avoid putting the target next to clutter on the screen. The target should be clearly visible on the screen and without other green stuff directly around it. Especially when targets are flying low, this can be difficult. If you cant do that, chances of getting a good lock are low * The moment you want to lock, try to fly stable and possibly straight. The WSO must lead the target with the cursor when locking and when you maneuver, Jester might guess the lead slightly incorrect. If the cursor misses the real target position (in between sweeps, this isnt at the return on the screen) just by a millimeter, the radar will likely lock a sidelobe. The more latteral you or the target are flying, the harder it is to lead correctly, but this is especially hard if you keep changing your attitude fast and rapid. Edited July 3, 2024 by Zabuzard 2
