Greetings! I have young kids and therefore unusual flight windows on Weekends at 0500, California time. I'm open to pretty much anything; flying with a squadron, casual flying, carrier ops, training, SEAD, whatever. I am usually on the F-18C, but fly the P-47 to prep for the Corsair and F-14 to prep for the Phantom. Former Marine, so I'm partial to Marine units and aircraft. I have all of the official maps.

This came up in a thread about something else. Credit goes to @Shane45 for the idea, but I thought this is an important answer to a FAQ that deserves its own thread: To use both the Heatblur Jester Wheel in the F-14 and the ARIO voice commands for Jester in the same mission simply: 1. Make sure VoiceAttack is not running when you start the mission. 2. Start VoiceAttack (and thus VAICOM PRO / AIRIO) once you are sitting in your Tomcat. You will find that the Jester wheel (the Heatblur one) works, and you can give voice commands to Jester. You can even use the "Jester, Options" command, but it brings up the Heatblur wheel without making the cockpit disappear, and you can then use the "Take xx" commands!" This seems like a great way to learn Jester commands, and should let you use the new ones even if VAICOM voice support for them isn't ready yet. The only downside is that the DCS file editing that VAICOM PRO does when it starts will be ignored until the next time you restart DCS. This means that after a DCS update you need to run VAICOM PRO once, then exit VoiceAttack, then follow the instructions above.

We all know jester attempts to switch to P-STT when closing into 10 mile ACM range. And we all know the most common follow-up call is i've lost lock. Annoying if you dont have a missile in the air but not terrible, However if you have a missile in the air and you lose lock... Is there any chance that a) Jester losing lock can be checked to ensure its realistic (a human rio seams to be heaps better at maintaining lock, and b) Jester not changing STT modes while a missile is in the air? Thanks

I been learning the F-14, and it is awesome but flying as a single guy is very complex as we all know. So I'm using Voice Attack to talk to jester and ask him to do things like "Change range to 100", "Select Waypoint 2", "Ground Stabilize", etc. The way I made it possible was making A LOT of macros in Voice Attack so that when I say "Stabilize Ground" VA executes: Press A (Open Jester Menu) Press LCtrl + 7 (Select TID Ground Stabilize) Press LCtrl + 1 (Select 15s) This works fine in some cases but then I have a huge problem. If I select A/G mode, and then say: "Stabilize Ground" the command executes but the menu of Jester now is different because now it shows me the menu options of Jester for air to ground. So If I am on Air to Ground, and tell jester with Voice Attack to "Stabilize Ground" it will execute the same commands as before but now it will eject my selected weapons! Because the menu of jester is not the same when you are air to ground than when you are air to air. Press A (Open Jester Menu. Now it opens the A/G Menu) Press LCtrl + 7 (Jettison Selected Weapons) Press LCtrl + 1 ( ) So I would like to know If there is any way to bind specific actions. For example bind Ctrl + 1, so jester can Change Radar to Range While Scan or Ctrl + 9 to Stabilize Ground, or select active ordnance, or any option in the Jester menu. I know maybe HB doesn't want it to be this way because then people might just bind everything and fly the tomcat without needing a RIO. But having a jester menu is the same, just that the process takes longer and people like me who want to use voice commands for a more realistic interaction can't do so, or have many problems in the process. I don't know if HB will read my message, but please allow us to bind any action in the controls or at least to bind direct access to A/A menu and A/G menu separately. Thanks! -edit- I know there are some bindings available right now, such as those of changing range, selecting waypoint and aircraft stabilize, but these are just the basic ones. It would be pretty helpful to have access to all of the jester options. --

A little cheat sheet for the 4 possible modes of Jettison. 1) Emergency Jettison. (Master arm safe or arm) push the button, everything but AIM-9s falls off. (Pilot) 2) ACM Jettison. (Pilot wRio help). Master arm on. As the Pilot go to the Air to Ground Menu and ask Jester to select the station(s) you with to jettison. Flip your ACM cover up and Press ACM button. You can dump anything, including tanks, or everything except sidewinders with this method. With a human Rio they just need to select the stations. 3) Jester "Drop Tanks" option. Open Jester menu, (Master arm on), "within visual range" "jettison drop tanks" with this option Jester will pickle off your drop tanks and you don't need to manually select the stations. But only the tanks will go, so if you have a bomb or two you want removed as well, you'll need to selective Jettison/ACM jettison. 4) (Not approved, good luck). It is possible to selectively remove one or both drop tanks through collision. You can hit something (carefully) and rip off just one of your drop tanks. I know, because I've done it... Airplane wasn't damaged, I landed safely, but one tank got ripped off. (Starboard) now I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's likely the aircraft will take damage. In theory you should be able to over-g the tank mounts, but I've never seen anyone do in in DCS and bring the jet home. There you go, the 4 modes of jettison in the F14. Have fun and see you in the skies.

MOD: Jester is reading taxi, takeoff, landing CHECKLISTS
winghunter posted a topic in DCS: F-14A & B
UPDATE: checklists voice & items improved I've setup a TTS machine learning voice model for Jester in a docker container. Then I had him read the checklists for taxi, lineup, air refueling, approach and landing. When i say i.e. "TAXI CHECKLIST" in VoiceAttack, then jester is reading the taxi checklist items one by one. To get the VoiceAttack profile working, you need to save the sound files .zip and point VoiceAttack to those sounds. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/298372-jester-reading-takeoff-fence-in-landing-checklists-with-voiceattack/ based on this checklist: (rearranged / sorted by location in VR cockpit ) Landing checklist landing checklist heatblur.mp3 Jester Checklists-Profile.vap taxi checklist.mp3 lineup checklist.mp3 approach checklist.mp3 landing checklist.mp3 air refueling checklist.mp3 parking checklist.mp3 Jester Checklist Sounds.zip -
Very often when I'm cruising at 30,000ft, some bandits show up at 5000ft or so, say within 40 miles on datalink. Unfortunately, Jester won't look at the datalink hostile HAFU marker, and adjust the radar elevation accordingly. He just sits there scanning at 30,000ft. Would it be possible for Jester to do some form of radar elevation search, perhaps prioritising on hostile datalink targets? It could save the effort to manually tell him to adjust his elevation.

The aligment is wrong by 15-30 degrees to the left while doing a fine alignment. The carrier was not turning and i was connected to the datalink for CVN-73 which was the carrier that i was on. Sometimes tho the alignment fixes it self while in the air but not always. In the pictures you see below is the final alignment heading and the true? heading from the bar in the external view. The current date was 17/08 1998 and the magnetic divation shall not be this much if that is the problem

I hope this isnt considered spam or so, but its hard to find info yet. Feel free to remove if so! So JesterV2 is described as a full rewrite, but I couldnt find any info on how he controls, what new features he brings, what will change. Have we any Info I mightve missed, maybe on the discord or so? Or is it all secret for now? Going into detail, im really curious about Jester V2. Flying the F-14 convinced me that an AI-copilot (or RIO in this case^^) doesnt have to be a dealbreaker, and can even bring something interesting to the table. Especially Jesters ability to spot in air and ground, make callouts, or manage nav entries is pretty neat while im flying the aircraft. I'd be very interested in what design direction Jester V2 will move now, compared to V1. More refinement? Or more features? A different control scheme?

I feel like I'm doing everything correctly, but for some reason after I designate the target for JESTER (in this example a static aircraft), he turns on the laser, but never provides turn left/turn right cues, or timing to release instructions making it impossible for me to release any ordnance. Are there some settings I should double check? I'm using GBU-12, and MAN release. Thank you in advance!
