cptmrcalm Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 (edited) Hi guys. Interesting one for you. Not a desperate one this, but a bug I stumbled upon by accident. Flying the Hornet yesterday. Steam version. Latest openbeta. All hardware updated (not relevent, but there you go). I was about to attack 2 F-16s using my AIM-120Cs using my radar. Suddenly, my INS knob went wild -turning around CW and CCW. Turns out I have a faulty digital switch which I had assigned to it. Took me a while to figure it out and solve it. Anyway, I noticed something odd when it happened. When you are properly aligned, you see targets on your radar that your datalink sees. Another words - even if you radar is off (silent) or if your beams/scanning azimuth is looking elsewhere, you see the data on your radar. Now. When my INS decided to turn itself off and to GND and all over the place, naturally my HUD, and SA/HSI screens went all crazy - as expected. However - so did my radar returns. That bit is crucial. NOT the shared data of targets on the radar - the info my radar didn't see -but the actual radar returns the radar is actually receiving signals from. Now these, I would have thought, would NOT be all over the place and would be fixed as true to what the radar sees. In other words, the code doesnt seem to separate the shared data targets on the radar from true radar returns. As you can imagine, at the most crucial moment, I lost my target and couldnt fire at it. I would think that only the shared data/targets from the datalink would be messed up - NOT the actual radar returns. A good find I think. I dont believe this to be realistic. But perhaps it is? cptmrcalm Posted July 5, 2024 Author Posted July 5, 2024 yeah.. that might be a bit difficult. Leave it with me. I'll see if I can get it next week. But to be honest, its pretty easy for you to replicate. Get yourself in a mission whereby you have targets on your radar with an awacs providing picture. Set your radar beams to say... 40 or 60 degrees. Have the radar sweep over some targets - and with datalink targets off/outside of beam and then turn the INS knob around. You will see your HUD, SA and HSI go crazy - and the datalink targets. What you should see (I think) is the radar targets within the 40 or 60 degrees sweep remain unaffected. Let me know what you find. I'll try and get hold of the file. If I cant, I'll set up a single player mission or something and have a go myself. pretty straight forward. Doubt this will be an issue for most if not all to be honest. But I guess ED would want to fix this all the same. https://www.youtube.com/@cptmrcalm | https://www.instagram.com/cptmrcalm/ | https://twitter.com/cptmrcalm | https://www.tiktok.com/@cptmrcalm
